The previous previous record of 4,380 theaters was set less than two months ago by Iron Man 2, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Last November New Moon lead the charts for best opening day with $72.7 million, so it should be interesting to see what kinds of numbers the film pulls today. Think it can surpass New Moon's opening weekend of $142.8 million? We're betting on it!
