Koppelhead.jpg Former ABC News anchor Ted Koppel's 40-year-old son Andrew Koppel was found dead in an apartment in upper Manhattan around 1:30am on Monday, according to NYPD detective John Sweeney.

Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the city medical examiner, said an autopsy was performed Monday but results were pending further testing, and they won't be available for several weeks.

Koppel had reportedly been drinking for hours with Russell Wimberly, a man he met at a bar. Wimberly told the NY Post, "He had a straw hat on, and I had one on, and he said, 'Nice hat, man.' We got to talking, and he started buying me drinks." Wimberly said that after drinking, he and Koppel ended up at the apartment of his friend Belinda Caban. After Koppel passed out, they assumed he was sleeping but a little bit later the two found that he had gotten sick and appeared not to be breathing, at which point they called 911.
