Even though Angelina Jolie is busy directing her Bosnian War love story, she is still considering future acting projects... and one is Cleopatra.

Jolie has been attached to the movie (which is in very early stages of development) for a while, with Scott Rudin producing. Now Deadline reports that director James Cameron and Sony Pictures "are exploring the very real possibility" of taking on the project and directing in 3D.

Sony Pictures co-chair Amy Pascal wants Angelina because "she's a real star who can open a movie by herself" and acknowledged that this Gone With The Wind-level epic "won't be cheap" but is still hoping to fast track the flick for a 2011 start date.

The script adaptation by Brian Helgeland is based on Pulitzer Prize-winning author Stacy Schiff's book Cleopatra: A Life and Schiff herself has said that Jolie has "the perfect look" for the role. And other than the Avatar sequel, Cleopatra is the only outside project Cameron is currently looking at.

Since Angelina told reporters back at the Hollywood Salt premiere she "would be honored" to play Cleopatra, we'd imagine this film might go into production as planned next year!
