Brad Pitt dined with famed playwright/screenwriter/film director David Mamet last night at Capo Italian restaurant in Santa Monica to discuss a project in which Pitt would be behind the camera as director, X17online can report, exclusively.

A source tells us Pitt is looking to follow in the footsteps of his partner Angelina Jolie, who just directed her first feature film, a yet-untitled Bosnian War love story.

The script's theme is still under wraps but a source tells X17online the screenplay will be written by Mamet, best-known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning play Glengarry Glen Ross and his Oscar-nominated screenplays for The Verdict and Wag the Dog. The film will be shot, at least in part, in Brazil.

Could it be a follow-up to Mamet's 2008 film Redbelt about a mixed-marital arts teacher working in Brazil?

Pitt's production company Plan B had no comment and Mamet's people could not be reached.
