ABC has decided to pull the plug on two of the network's longest-running soap operas ... One Life To Live and All My Children.
All My Children aired for 41 years and One Life To Live survived a 43-year run. Kelly Ripa, who met her husband Mark Consuelos on AMC, said the following:
- "All My Children means so much more to me than any place, because [Mark and I] met there, we had our children there, it was a big part of our lives. I think that to cancel a show that has been on television for so many years, what are you going to replace it with? I mean I just don’t know. I just feel like it’s such a training ground for so many actors."
ABC announced both soaps will be replaced with a food-related show called The Chew and a lifestyle show called The Revolution.
OLTL's final episode will air in January 2012. AMC will wrap it up in September 2011.

ABC's president released the following statement about the canceled soaps:
- “While we are excited about our new shows and the shift in our business, I can’t help but recognize how bittersweet the change is. We are taking this bold step to expand our business because viewers are looking for different types of programming these days. They are telling us there is room for informative, authentic and fun shows that are relatable, offer a wide variety of opinions and focus on ‘real life’ takeaways."
