andy-rooney-dead-92.jpgCBS veteran Andy Rooney passed away yesterday in a New York City hospital at the age of 92, the network has confirmed.

The 60 Minutes newsman had been in the hospital since late October after suffering complications from surgery, and this was just a few weeks after he announced that he was retiring. Rooney is survived by his four children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Jeff Fager, the chairman of CBS News and the EP of 60 Minutes, said in a statement today, "It's a sad day at 60 Minutes and for everybody here at CBS News. It's hard to imagine not having Andy around. He loved his life and he lived it on his own terms. We will miss him very much."
