The Artist picked up six nominations at today's Golden Globe Award nominations announcement. Harvey Weinstein's silent film is a front-runner this awards season.

But the Hollywood Foreign Press Association made some decidedly different choices than the Screen Actors Guild yesterday, with that organization's award nominations announcement. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was snubbed Wednesday by SAG, while the film picked up two nods today for -- one for Mara Rooney in the Best Drama Actress category and for Best Score.

The Globes has set up an interesting face-off between Ides of March co-stars George Clooney and Ryan Gosling, both nominated in the Best Actor category, though Clooney for The Descendants. But Clooney's got enough other chances to pick up a prize ... he was also nominated for Best Director for Ides and the film is named in the Best Motion Picture and Best Original Screenplay categories. Clooney's dramedy The Descendants is also vying for Best Motion Picture. And Gosling also has a chance to win an award with his Best Comedy-Musica Actor nom for Crazy Stupid Love.

The Help picked up five nods, as did Clooney's Descendants.

Brad Pitt (Moneyball) and Leonardo DiCaprio (J. Edgar) scored Best Drama Actor nominations.

Other notable noms are those in the Best motion Picture, Comedy-Musical category -- Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, Bridesmaids, The Artist, 50/50, and My Week With Marilyn.
