French actor Jean Dujardin won the prize for Best Actor in a Film for his lead role in The Artist, which is considered a frontrunner for the Oscars.

The SAG Awards seem to set up some major competition for the Academy Awards on Feb 26. The Golden Globes chose audience and critics' favorites The Artist as Best Comedy/Musical and George Clooney vehicle The Descendants as Best Drama. Meryl Street won Best Actress in a Drama for her role as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, while Clooney won for The Descendants. The Help was nominated in multiple categories but passed over in all but Best Supporting Actress for Octavia Spencer.
