tom-cruise-files-divorce.jpgTom Cruise’s lawyer has confirmed that the 50-year-old actor will file his own divorce papers to counter the ones Katie Holmes filed last week in New York.

Cruise's attorney Bert Fields told BBC:

We are letting 'the other side' [Holmes and her legal team], play the media until they wear everyone out. Then we’ll have something to say. It's not Tom's style to do this publicly. He is really sad about what's happening."

Holmes hasn't exactly been dragging Cruise's name through the mud, but she did state in her divorce papers that she doesn’t want Suri raised as a Scientologist, which was one of the many things the couple reportedly fought about during their five year marriage.

Holmes is seeking sole custody of the couple's six-year-old daughter, and it's not yet known what she might be seeking as far as spousal support. Fields added that “tactically we can’t say where Tom will file a divorce case and if he’ll be seeking joint custody of Suri." Stay tuned...
