Oscar-winner Russell Crowe and his wife of nine years, Danielle Spencer, have split, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald.

The couple first met 22 years ago on the set of the film, The Crossing, and dated before splitting up when Crowe headed to Hollywood to pursue an acting career. Crowe famously dated actress Meg Ryan before reuniting with Spender in 2002. The couple married in 2003, just five months after the actor proposed. Crowe and Spencer have two children together -- Charles, 8, and Tennyson, 6. The split is said to be amicable.

Crowe is currently in the US filming the biblical epic Noah, while Spencer remains in Sydney with their two sons.

The actor has been super busy, filming back-to-back movies. He has seven films coming out in the next year: Man with the Iron Fist, Les Miserables, Broken City, Superman, Noah and his next project The Winter’s Tale, with Colin Farrell and Will Smith.
