brooke-mueller-230.jpgCharlie Sheen's ex-wife Brooke Mueller was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold just days before child protective services took away the former couple's twins and granted temporary custody to Sheen's other ex-wife, Denise Richards.

Mueller was put on a 5150 at the UCLA Medical Center under the Californian Welfare Institutions Code (this is the same process Britney Spears went through in 2008 before being put under a conservatorship), and a source close to the Mueller family told Radar, “Brooke was taken to the medical center on Wednesday night, after she was deemed to be a threat to herself and to others. She had been using drugs for days and was not in her right mind. It was a very sad, sad situation. Once Brooke was admitted, her doctors notified the Department of Children and Family Services and action was taken by the agency immediately to get her children legally out of her care.”

Mueller is still being held at the hospital, but according to Us Weekly she's grateful that Richards is looking after 4-year-old twins Bob and Max. "Brooke is really not in good shape at all. She is not opposed to Denise having the kids - that's her first choice," a source tells the mag.
