Lauryn Hill was just sentenced to three months in prison after failing to pay taxes on $1 million in earnings.

In addition to her sentence, the Grammy winner was also given three months of home confinement. Hill maintains she always intended to pay the backed money, but did not have the means after retiring from the music business to raise her six children.

"I needed to be able to earn so I could pay my taxes, without compromising the health and welfare of my children, and I was being denied that," she told the judge Monday.

The R&B diva originally faced a maximum of one year on each of the three counts, so considering that we think she got off easy!
