oscar012409_06_230.jpgIt seems Oscar De La Hoya's substance abuse reached a breaking point as he has reportedly checked himself into rehab today, which will make him miss the huge fight between Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez this weekend.

"I will not be at the fight to cheer Canelo to victory since I have voluntarily admitted myself into a treatment facility," the retired boxing great said in a statement. "I explained this to Canelo and he understood that my health and long-term recovery from my disease must come first. I ask for your support and privacy during this difficult time for me and my family."

The 40-year-old retired champ, whose Golden Boy Promotions helped set up the mega fight, did not specify the reason for his trip to rehab but has already admitted to using cocaine and being an alcoholic in the past.
