Entertainment Weekly got the first look at Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl, and we're dying over this! EW approached Twentieth Century Fox about getting an exclusive inside look at the making of Gone Girl, and Christmas came early for them last month when director David Fincher offered to shoot the cover himself!

Gone Girl is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Gillian Flynn, and the story focuses on the complicated marriage of Nick and Amy Dunne. Amy disappears on the couple's fifth wedding anniversary, at which point Nick becomes the prime suspect in her murder. However, the evidence doesn't quite stack up and not everything is what it seems in this twisted tale. We'll stop -- we don't want to spoil it for the rest of you guys who haven't read the book yet!

I dont know what likable is," Fincher said of the characters and their parallels to individuals in the real world. "I know people who are doting parents, who give to charity, drive Priuses, all those things, who are insufferable a**holes. I like people who get sh*t done. Don't we all?

So what does Flynn, have to say about watching her book become a big screen adaption? There was something thrilling about taking this piece of work that Id spent about two years painstakingly putting together with all its eight million LEGO pieces and take a hammer to it and bash it apart and reassemble it into a movie, she says.

The movie hits theaters in October 2014 ... we can't wait!
