Nicki Minaj's recent snake obsession appears to have come back to bite her as one of the rapper's backup dancers were bitten by a live snake during rehearsals for her MTV Video Music Awards performance.

During the Friday rehearsal, a 6-foot-long boa constrictor named Rocky was draped around her shoulders when the incident occurred. The 31-year-old entertainer rushed to her dancer's side immediately after the bite took place.

Although the snake wasn't venomous, the female dancer was treated at the scene to clean her wound and transported to a nearby hospital prevent a bacterial infection "out of an abidance of caution," Chris Velvin, director of production safety for Viacom Media Networks, said.

"It is in no way life-threatening, but scary," Velvin added "We wanted her to start getting treatment as soon as possible."

The snake, who had worked in the industry for 15 years, was removed from set by a nearby animal handler. As it stands, Minaj and company plan on using a different snake for her performance during the awards show.
