You'd think after her controversial "Blurred Lines" performance in 2013, Miley Cyrus would be banned from the VMAs for life ... but think again. The unruly singer just announced on Instagram that she wouldn't be performing at this year's VMAs -- because she's hosting!

Along with a snap of Miley looking like an alien about to go green screen, the "Wrecking Ball" singer wore a sign saying, "MTV won't let me perform ... so I'm hosting this year's VMAs."

Taylor Swift got nine nominations, including Best Female Video, Best Collaboration, and Best Video Effects. Ed Sheeran nabbed six nods, while Beyonce landed five noms. All three are up for the Video of the Year and Best Pop Video categories.

Those three superstars and the rest of music's biggest names will be vying to take home their own Moonman on Aug. 30 at 9 pm.
