Seems Broadway-loving, Hamilton-supporting musical fans are NOT fans of Vice President-elect Mike Pence -- in fact, the audience damn near ran the politician out of the theater!
At Friday's show, the audience mostly booed the VP-elect as he walked to his seat, surrounded by secret service. Then, during the show's famous line, "immigrants, we get the job done," there were roaring cheers from the audience.
Then, at the show's conclusion, as Pence was walking out of the theater, Hamilton cast member Brandon Victor Dixon — who’s currently playing Aaron Burr — called out to him and pulled out a piece of paper and delivered the following remarks, as the cast linked arms behind him:
- "Vice-president elect Pence, we welcome you and we truly thank you for joining us at Hamilton: An American Musical. We really do. We, sir, are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents — or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. But we truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us. All of us. We truly thank you for sharing this show — this wonderful American story told by a diverse group of men, women of different colors, creeds, and orientations."
Pence left the building. Seriously?! If he gives up that easily, it's gonna be tough road these next four years ...
