We still can't believe this happened!
The crowd was shocked when Warren Beatty accidentally announced that La La Land had won Best Picture at the Oscars, when in fact the award was meant for Moonlight, but it wasn't exactly the actor's fault. Apparently, he had been handed the wrong envelope, which was for Emma Stone's win for Best Actress, and it might have been Leonardo DiCaprio's doing.
The Revenant star presented the award to Stone moments before the Best Picture category, and some people think he accidentally gave his envelope to Beatty.
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the firm that handles counting votes and determining the winners, took the blame for the mix-up.
"We sincerely apologize to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture. The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred," they said in a statement.
This certainly made things interesting!
