Thai Official NOT Happy With Angelina's Visit
Posted on Wed Feb 11, 2009 10:35 AM PDT
A Thai government official wants Angelina to keep her well plumped lips sealed!!!
The Thai official criticized Jolie for speaking out on behalf of Muslim refugees from Myanmar.
Angelina called for better treatment of the refugees, known as the Rohingya, during a visit to Thailand last week.
Thailand's military has recently been accused of detaining and beating hundreds of Rohingya who fled abuse and poverty in Myanmar, before towing them back out to sea in tiny boats with little food and water, according to the Associated Press.
The permanent secretary of the Thai foreign ministry says the UNHCR should not have brought Jolie, the organization's goodwill ambassador, to the camps.
The UNHCR wouldn't comment on the official's rebuke, but issued the following statement.
"Angelina Jolie was extremely touched by the plight of the Rohingya people. She expressed the hope that the human rights of the Rohingya people will be respected just as the human rights of everyone in the world should be respected."
Do you think Angelina is doing more harm than good?

What can you expect from them. If no one speaks out they can keep on doing what they do. Now they look bad and can't hide.
Fools. The UNHCR did speak and make a statement about it. The Ministry dept in Thailand is the one who approved Jolie and Pitt's visit and in fact gave them the passes to enter the refugee camp.
Kitty McKinsey, UNHCR spokeswoman in Bangkok, told AFP that both Jolie and Pitt had camp passes issued by the Ministry of Interior, and said the visit was arranged with the cooperation of the foreign ministry.
I have been to Thailand don't wanna make em' mad, land of the 7 smiles is a creepy way of saying smile in your face stab you in the back literally!
She did what she had to do and I support her... it is a shame that very little can be done because of the Thai government....
It's a sad world people will do any thing to try and smear Angelina.
X17 will try to find any thing negative about her. I don't think this was worth you tracking this story down and putting up.
It's not fair for Thailand.
Why Don't UNHCR blame Myanmar?
Look at Cambodian war. Thai gave them camps. So, what have they done to Thailand now?
I know human right, but where is Thai right?
Good that Angelina talked about this human rights problem. being a celebrity she gets alot more people to pay attention to this kind of problem than the UN diplomats can.
SHE IS BITCH.I DON'T LIKE HER.
SHE IS BITCH.I DON'T LIKE HER.
Stop using the poor to get yourself good publicity THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA, ALREADY LOVES YOU.
You IDIOTS these celebs are in bed with GLOBAL.SOCIALISM for the MIDDLE.CLASS through the corrrrrupt UNITED.NATIONS.
Gosh, all the woman ever says is she hopes the human rights will be restored or honored or some such nonsense..she never DOES anything
Thailand has a pretty bad record of refugee treatment. They granted burmese refugees safety and because they are "long-necks" who wear the coils on their necks, attract tourists. Now the thai officals wont grant them full citizenship or exit visals to start new lives. They are just stuck so thailand can attract tourists and they have no basic human rights there. Good on ang for bringing this to the global attention, this has been going on for about 20 years
We need more voices like hers.
Hope other celebrities do the same, and maybe, only maybe... those united voice can really do something to force changes for possitive.
The Thai government has the right to
okay a persons visit. Do you really
think that a movie star flying in for
one day is going to solve any of the
problems that these people have had
for years. She wants a oscar and she
is using it for all its worth. America
has no money to give away, we don't
want to be in another war so why go in
for a day to stir things up. Sounds
like to me that she should be home taking care of all the kids she has.
They sound a little out of control too.
Geez if helping others can bring you an OSCAR Audrey Hepburn could have a dozen of it, right?? Not... Besides she'd been to Iraq and to Africa last year and she was not nominated for OSCAR BEST Actres, stop your crazy hating at least YOU know now how THAI government is treating these refugees and now is the HOT TOPIC and other agencies are calling on the THAI about it kudos to Angelina Jolie.
Thai's have murdered close to 1000 human beings in high seas, by setting them adrift. The persons responsible should be prosecuted for Crimes against Humanity. Its a shame that the Thai state has this unwritten policy and still does not admit to its crimes. If you don't want them, just take care of them temporarily till another home can be found, killing them is a violation of UN charter for Universal Human Rights and is ground for exclusion from the UN.
Come on like rich spoiled Angelina has any idea whats going on in any country, she just goes to poor countries to take photos and make herself look good.
I will believe she is serious about it
and not using it for publicity when she
does more than fly in for a day and then
flies back out and asks everyone to give
and help them. There are lots of others
that have done more. In case you haven't
noticed almost every country in the world is having troubles right now,
even America. There are people without
jobs, living in cars, straving, no medical care and much more. I would
rather help my own country than send
money over seas and never really know
where it is going (maybe for travel
expenses, salaries for the UN and never
gets to those who really need it. This
country doesn't have jobs for the people
here so we can't bring in more. It's
sad but that is the way it is. We've
given billions and their problems are
still the same.
Oscar awards night coming up!
When she got slammed late last fall for letting slip her "affair of the heart" with Pitt happened while he was still married, within a month she was in Afghanistan having her picture taken. I'm sorry for being cynical, but even the New York Times said the way it actually is with Jolie. She needs to go away...the refugees need somebody who truly cares about them, not someone who uses them as a means for her own ends.
