Barbara Bush joins Meghan McCain as another daughter of a conservative politician who is speaking out in support of gay marriage.
In a video for The HRC's New Yorkers For Gay Marriage campaign, Bush says "I am Barbara Bush, and I am a New Yorker for marriage equality." Barbara, who lives in New York, continued, "New York is about fairness and equality. And everyone should have the right to marry the person that they love."
A spokesman for the Human Rights Campaign said the video was produced to help promote efforts to win same-sex marriage rights in New York.
Although former president Bush was an opponent of same-sex marriage and supported a constitutional amendment in 2004 to outlaw it, former first lady Laura Bush said in a recent interview, "When couples are committed to each other and love each other" they should have "the same sort of rights that everyone has."
