Report: Blake Lively To Play Carrie Bradshaw In Sex And The City Prequel
Posted on Mon Feb 7, 2011 11:51 AM PDT

With the original ladies of Sex and the City primarily preoccupied with marriage, motherhood and menopause, producer Michael Patrick King is apparently keen on bringing one of Candace Bushnell's SATC prequels to the big screen -- starring none other than Gossip Girl's Blake Lively.
Bushnell's first prequel, The Carrie Diaries, features Carrie Bradshaw's trials and tribulations in high school, but a just-finished novel, Summer in the City, chronicles Carrie's move from Connecticut to New York when she was 19. That's where Blake would come in.
As for where that would leave Sarah Jessica Parker, “There are no plans to bring SJP and the other girls back together in the old format,” a source tells Grazia. “The prequel is about breathing new life into the story and exploring Carrie’s first few months in NYC and the beginning of her relationship with an older man.”
Hmmm, Carrie Bradshaw and an older man? Sounds familiar!

Since Sex and the City 2 was such a box office disappointment, yet the original series is getting new life breathed into it with reruns over several channels in syndication, it makes sense that a prequel would be a great way to breath new life into the series. But is Blake Lively, who already seems way wiser than her 23 years, the best choice to play a young, inexperienced Carrie?
