A psychiatric examination has been ordered for Bakersfield man whose Facebook page was filled with threats to kill President Obama. After police got word he might have bombs in his house, his neighborhood was evacuated and 25 houses were evacuated.

Brooks Thompson, 24, was arrested Saturday for allegedly attempting to make an explosive device.

"Tell the ATF, NSA, CIA, FBI, and DHS they can consider me a threat to homeland security," said a message on Thompson's Facebook page.

It surprised neighbor Tiffany Cosby. "He didn't seem like he would be sitting in his bedroom making bombs at night," she said. Instead of being booked in jail, Thompson was sent to the Memorial Center for mental competency evaluations. However, his attorney George Boyle says Thompson fled the facility after being left alone in the waiting room. "For some reason that caused a disturbance in Brooks' mind and for some reason that led to a very difficult and terrible fight out there," Boyle said. Thompson was found by police on Monday. Boyle began talking to Thompson and his family before the pipe bomb incident because his family was concerned with how isolated their grandson had become. Thompson is facing felony charges but is pleading not guilty. "I don't think prison is ever going to help anyone in his situation and were it not for the fight I'm certain he would be in the hospital and there wouldn't be any charges at this time," Boyle said.
No bail is set while Thompson is undergoing mental evaluations. Thompson will be back in court for that evaluation hearing on March 24.
