Here's what Cosmo Australia had to say about Brit on their site, promoting their December issue with Brit on the cover:

Sure, Brit's been through some rough times (K. Fed, the umbrella incident, the baby-behind-the-steering-wheel story) but gosh darn it, don't we love her? We decided to chart Britney's rise - and fall - through her VMA appearances over the years. From that kiss with Madonna to that nude shocker, one thing is clear: Britney is a born entertainer. Britney Graces Cosmo ... Five Years Too Late

Britney Spears looks amazing on the December cover of Australian Cosmo -- only problem...the picture is five years old!
These pre 5150/ K-Fed pics were taken by James White for a cover story that ran in Esquire Magazine back in 2003.
Cosmo clearly wants more Brit for the buck.
OK, Cosmo, Elizabeth Arden all used 4-5 yr old photos. Her camp acts like 2 babies, a breakdown, and the perm c-ship don't exist.

Cosmo chose to use an old picture, not Britney's people. Britney has managed to get herself looking like that again anyways so what is the big deal? She looks gorgeous in the picture.
OK! ran an interview with an old photo. Elizabeth Arden is running a marketing campaign with an old photo. Cosmo is just another example of this tired stunt. I suspect Britney's people are fully aware and approved of these old photos.
P.S. While in NY, Britney sat for an Elizabeth Arden photo shoot. Clearly, the company was not happy with the results and used a 5 year old photo from a tour. Seeing old photos used on magazines, marketing campaigns and a heavily photo-shopped album cover probably contributes to her feelings of insecurity about her appearance.
