As a person who has gone through major depression and anxiety in the past, I can tell you how emotionally draining it is on friends and family. I don't think what Sam did was right, but I think he was just trying to do what he could given the circumstances. She was defiant, out of control and most likely manipulative and at least he was there for her. It seems like her parents only stepped in at the last moment.

Now she is being cared for by the very people who caused her to be like this in the first place, so I am sure that doesn't feel good at all.
