Why Did Britney's Conservatorship Get Extended?

When we heard that Britney Spears' conservatorship was being extended through 2010, we were very surprised and curious to learn the reason(s) behind it.
Though the pop princess has made tremendous progress over the past few years, you can't help but feel sorry for her, knowing that she's constantly being watched and unable to live the same kind of life as any other 28-year-old woman. So what made Judge Goetz decide to hold off on giving Britney the freedom to do whatever she wants? Here are a few possibly theories:
- FOR HER BOYS
It's no secret that Britney and ex-husband Kevin Federline's custody battle was nearly as epic as the Trojan War, but another driving factor behind the conservatorship could be the fact that Britney's current custody arrangement would be compromised if the c-ship ended. Britney and K-Fed's joint custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James runs through 2009, and it's very likely that the continuance of the conservatorship will help solidify an extension of their current arrangement. While Britney obviously isn't thrilled about the c-ship, we know she'd do anything to be with her boys, so this is the most likely bet.
- ANOTHER TOUR
One of the main reasons the conservatorship was extended last year was because Britney wasn't able to get insurance for her Circus tour without it. Britney busted her butt to get back in shape, but once she hit the stage it became pretty clear to everyone that she was climbing her way back to the top. Britney wrapped up the Australian leg of her tour late last month, so perhaps she's giving herself a little break before cranking out another album and hitting the road in early 2010?
- BRITNEY'S STILL GOT A SCREW LOOSE
Well, we doubt Britney fantasizes about racing around Hollywood sans panties with a pink wig on her shaved head, but it's entirely possible that the judge and Brit's handlers are concerned that the pop princess might go bananas again if she's cut loose. Perhaps they're erring on the side of caution and using 2010 as a year to determine whether or not Britney can truly handle being on her own?

Postpartum depression is not a psychosis, you dumb slut. It's something that happens to millions of women worldwide every year. This is my favorite story of 2009. Technically, the conservatorship wasn’t extended. It was made permanent in October 2008. The court requires an annual psychiatric re-evaluation. Apparently she failed (it was inevitable). She once said she didn’t want to be a role model and she wasn’t. She did, however, become an excellent example of negative consequences. Her life reminds people why they shouldn’t consume alcohol and drugs and why when a judge orders a psychiatric evaluation, the person should follow the order. Her arrogance and poor judgment led her to irreparably damage her life. Oh well, too bad. The permanent conservatorship means she can’t endanger children, drivers and pedestrians without facing more harsh consequences. As long as other people don’t have to deal with the chaos that follows her around like a shadow it’s all good!
