It's Official: Nicole Scherzinger Replaces Cheryl Cole On The X Factor

Jun 6, 2011 11:33 AM

Fox confirmed Monday that Nicole Scherzinger, who was acting as co-host of the new, U.S. version of The X Factor will replace Cheryl Cole as a judge on the show.

Cole got the boot about 10 days ago; rumored reasons included that the British singer's accent, weight, chemistry with her fellow judges and lack of celebrity in America were all problems. Scherzinger will join judges Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid and Paula Abdul.

Reportedly, Cole will still get the $1.5 million she was owed under her contract with the show. The British songstress is supposedly so offended by the firing, she won't re-join the judging panel of the U.K. version of the show. The 27-year-old had sat on the panel since 2008, when she replaced Sharon Osbourne.

Fellow Brit Simon Cowell was trying to help Cole up her fame in the U.S. with The X Factor, which he executive produces, but reports say he was ultimately on board with the decision to let her go.

Report: X Factor Production Co. Wants To Avoid Paying Fired Cheryl Cole

Jun 3, 2011 08:55 AM

cercole460copy.jpgBritish pop star Cheryl Cole may have to fight for her $1 million paycheck!

The singer's short-lived gig at X Factor lasted just four days, but the production company doesn't want to foot the bill for the fired judge.

Cole still wants to be paid for the work she was contracted to do, "as a matter of principle", according to THR. The Girls Aloud singer bought a house in Los Angeles, and moved her entire life to the states, only to be let go shortly after arriving.

Since Cole was a part of the beginning of the show, there is really no way to avoid showing her on camera, so she will be called a "guest judge" when the US X Factor airs.

The show's executive producer Richard Holloway revealed of deciding to show the fired singer: “Yes, of course Cheryl will be on the American show, she did auditions in two cities and we will reflect that.”

Cole has been laying low in the UK after the firing, and has turned down an opportunity to reclaim her old job on the original X Factor.

Report: Cheryl Cole Feels "Hung Out To Dry" After Being Fired From X Factor

May 31, 2011 08:15 AM

Cheryl Cole is still feeling the effects of getting the boot from her spot as a judge on the US X Factor.

Cole's friend talks about a recent conversation with the singer. According to The Mirror, Cole reportedly said the following:

“I’ve been hung out to dry, and I know who’s to blame. I’ve had no opportunity whatsoever to prove myself and instead they’ve just cast me aside like a fool.”

The 27-year-old Girls Aloud singer reportedly blames Simon Cowell for her firing. After the drama, Cheryl refused Simon's offer to be a judge on the UK version. As a result, she was not included on the judges' panel. The UK X Factor judges are: Gary Barlow, Kelly Rowland, Louis Walsh and N-Dubz’s Tulisa Contostavlos.

The friend adds:

"Cheryl’s not stupid. She knows this is a kick in the teeth no matter what spin Cowell comes up with.”

A Fox source had the following to say about Cole's situation: "We’re not thrilled with the chemistry. Cheryl may be Britain’s sweetheart, but at the end of the day, she wasn’t a big enough name here.”

Find out who ultimately replaced Cole ... after the jump.

Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, who was originally set to be a co-host of the US version of Simon Cowell's talent competition show X Factor, will now REPLACE British pop star Cheryl Cole as a judge on the show, according to TMZ.

Cole's English accent was a concern, according to the report, and other reports speculate her judging duties for the UK version of the show, not to mention her singing career, may have caused scheduling conflicts.

Fellow judges Cowell, L.A. Reid and Paula Abdul will continue on with their duties while Steve Jones will host the show solo now, as Scherzinger moves to the judges' table.

No official word yet on why Cole, 27, was let go. The singer had already taped several audition shows with the cast. The show is set to air in September.

X17 LIVE - X Factor Auditions Begin, Judges Start Work

May 8, 2011 12:23 PM

X17 is LIVE at the first taping of The X Factor with the newly-announced judges' panel cast including American Idol alum Paula Abdul, UK pop star Cheryl Cole, Def Jam head honcho L.A. Reid, Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, UK presenter Steve Jones, and the group's boss, Simon Cowell.

The judges will file into the Galen Center at the University of Southern Califonia in LA to preside over the first round of auditions. The format's simple -- X Factor judges scour the country for fresh talent, put them on broadcast airwaves, and choose a winner. The competition is open to solo artists and groups and there is no age limit, unlike with American Idol.

Each judge is assigned to a category of competitors ranging from individuals over 25, boys under 25, girls under 25, and groups and serves as a mentor. According to Cowell’s description of the show, the judges have a stake in the ultimate winner since they will be mentoring the winners. He told People Magazine that he wants tension between the judges: “I liked the Idol panel when we first started. We had different opinions, and I think it’s important you have different opinions."

So what's the prize? The winner receives a recording contract for $5 million. Not bad!
