Why Did Chris Brown Request A Continuance?

Chris Brown made his first appearance in court today! But that's only because he had to, people.
The singer, charged with two felonies - assault and making criminal threats (against g/f Rihanna) - arrived at the LA Superior Court downtown this afternoon for his 3:30 pm scheduled arraignment hearing.
Dressed in a gray suit and swarmed by crowds of photogs and onlookers, Chris entered the court room looking stoic.
He and attorney Mark Geragos did not enter a plea - instead they asked the judge to postpone the arraignment until April 6th and the judge allowed it.
Additionally, the judge ordered Brown "not to annoy, harass, threaten or commit violence against anyone." Also present was Rihanna's attorney, who did not request a "no-contact" order - which means both singers are still legally allowed to see each other.
What do you think about all this? What's the point in delaying the proceedings for one month? Could it be that Brown's legal team just doesn't know how to defend their client?

Court is NOT simple. Lawyers need all the time they can get. and with charges like this! Hello!!! And seriously people should stay out of it. Its between them and the law.

Remember people, it's the LEGAL system. It's got nothing to do with Justice. Lawyers killed the Justice system many decades ago. Sad but very true.
The time extention is to allow his lawyr to view and test the evidence. He might offer to plea to lesser charges and offer sentencing options.
If it works then the charges would be changed and when pressed he would plead no contest or guilty.
My guess is some house jail time, some community service, some physco babble, a fine and probation.
As a violent male prisoner he will have to do about half of any real jail time he gets and if the judge decides to he can be sent to prison. Not likely for a first offender.
What it all really comes down to is the DA's opinion of the strenth of each charge. I would be suprised if he does not have to plead to a single charge but a felony.

Mark Geragos is a very well known attorney and is also very well known for delaying the process. Continuances are second nature to him.

More likely, the additional time is to give our corrupt District Attorney Steven Cooley here in LA County time to reduce or dismiss the charges.
Remember Lindsay Lohan? Her attorney asked for a private meeting with DA Steve Cooley and made a BIG donation to Cooley's re-election campaign.
In turn, Cooley dismissed all the felony and major misdemeanor charges (DUI, driving under influence of cocaine, reckless driving at night at over 100 MPH on PCH, car jacking, etc.) against Lindsay "in the public interest."
Lindsay was arraigned and convicted of one minor misdemeanor and served only 50 minutes in jail.
Wait and see.

Obviously nobody here has any clue about the legal system. Brown's attorney is trying to work out a plea bargain with the DA's office, where they would trade a guilty plea for a lesser charge. Since the plea bargain has not yet been worked out, they asked for a continuance to avoid making a not guilty plea yesterday, since they know that sensationalist, judgemental pricks in the media and tabloids would blow that out of proportion. Standard procedure in many court proceedings. Nothing to see here, folks...
