Tom Cruise's 16-year-old son Connor Cruise has the need for speed ... just like his famous dad!

Connor is the adopted son of the Top Gun actor and ex-wife Nicole Kidman. The budding DJ, and pilot, hopped in his propeller plane to take a flight over the Cruise family home in Malibu.

Most teenagers would think flying their own plane at the young age of sixteen is a mission impossible, but not for Tom's boy Connor.

Apparently, the sky's the limit!

Happy birthday, Tom Cruise!

The A-lister turned 40 on July 3, and the whole family was in Miami, where Cruise is on location for Rock of Ages, to celebrate!

Wife Katie Holmes threw a surprise party for her hubby at the exclusive Soho House, and Isabella, Connor and 5-year-old Suri were all spotted celebrating in style -- love those shades, Suri!

Holmes arranged the party on the DL for about 40 guests, who noshed on Italian food and a chocolate cake for dessert, the New York Post reports.

While Tom Cruise is off racing cars and promoting his film Knight and Day, Connor Cruise is staying at home here in Los Angeles, attending meetings at Scientology's Celebrity Centre in Hollywood.

At least he got to hang out with a couple of hotties!

Connor's taking after his dad Tom, jumping into his second major movie role (his first was as a young Will Smith in Seven Pounds) in the remake of the 80s classic Red Dawn.

THR reports that Cruise will play Daryl, the son of the town's mayor who helps mount a resistance when the town is invaded by Chinese and Russian troops.

Connor will have to go through a few weeks of military training before the shoot starts next month in Detroit.

But military training should be a breeze compared to his Scientology training, right?

Connor looks positively elated to be at the Scientology Center, doesn't he?!

Tom and Katie and Suri! visited son Connor on the set of his upcoming film Seven Pounds yesterday.

The youngest thespian of the former Cruise-Kidman family was shooting in Hollywood, for his role as the young version of Will Smith's character Ben in the emotional drama.

Will plays an IRS agent depressed about his past, who sets out to make things right by helping strangers. Rosario Dawson also stars as Ben's love interest and Woody Harrelson plays a blind pianist who befriends Smith's character, Ben.

It's Connor Cruise's first turn at acting, though he's already booked a role in the Aaron Sorkin-scripted, Steven Spielberg-directed The Trial of the Chicago 7, now in pre-production. Not bad!
