Corey Haim Obtained 553 Pills Before His Death

Apr 6, 2010 02:16 PM

The California Attorney General Jerry Brown revealed that Corey Haim had obtained 553 doses of prescription drugs in the month before he died.

"In a period of 32 days, Corey Haim obtained at least 553 doses of potentially dangerous prescription drugs," Brown said. "He died five days later. It's important for people to understand that legal, prescribed drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs, and doctor shopping can be deadly."

The former child star had collected more than 195 tablets of Valium, 194 tablets of Soma, 149 tablets of Vicodin and 15 tablets of Xanax, in prescriptions obtained through aliases, emergency rooms and urgent care facilities and filled in multiple pharmacies.

Corey Haim passed away on March 10th, after a bout with pneumonia, which was exacerbated by his drug addiction.

Since the death of Corey Haim, we've seen buddy Corey Feldman stepping out quite a bit. The actor took a break from grieving and hit up T-Man Tattoo Studio in Studio City. X17online photographers were told that Feldman was there for a follow-up visit to add finishing touches to his balloon tattoo.

Meanwhile, an arrest has been made in the state investigation involving the death of Corey Haim. The California Attorney General has been looking into finding the doctors who may have been involved in an illegal prescription drug ring connected with the actor.

Although the name of the suspect in custody has not been released, Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. says that 38-year-old Haim obtained "thousands of pills" from numerous doctors since last year. Although the suspect may be involved in this prescription drug ring, Brown says this person may have not directly supplied the drugs to Haim.

Brown adds, "How many people go to 10, 15 or 20 doctors and then run around to 10, 12 and more pharmacies to go fulfill them? And sometimes two different doctors on the same day? If he took all the pills that our records show he was prescribed over the last year and three months, he took some very damaging assaults on his body."

OxyContin has been confirmed as one of the drugs that Haim had been taking at the time of his death. Other drugs suspected in killing the actor are Vicodin and Valium. All of these drugs were reportedly found in his mother's apartment on March 10 with those prescriptions made out to Haim.

Brown's office has also confirmed that a doctor's pad had been stolen, and there was a prescription written to Haim using that pad. He adds, "so it was fraudulent and we know it was filled."

Police have mentioned an overdose as the possible cause of Haim's death, but the official cause is pending toxicology results which could take 6 - 8 weeks.

38-year old Corey Haim was laid to rest today in Toronto, Canada, but his friend and former co-star Corey Feldman did not attend.

Instead, Feldman posted a heartfelt letter to Haim on his personal website entitled, A Letter For The Grave.

In the note, Feldman explains why he did not attend today's service:

"First off I am so sorry I am not there with you today. By that I mean my physical body is not with your physical body. However you know that my heart is right at your side. You also know the only reason I am truly not there is out of respect for your mother and her wishes to minimize the media attention as much as possible."

He also addresses their history with battling inner demons:

"My mission in life became saving yours. I never gave up, I tried …I walked away, but I always came back, to let you know I was there. In a dark and lonely world with spiteful angry people we always understood each others pain."

Read the entire letter after the jump.

Over 200 of Corey's friends and family attended the services today at Steeles Memorial Chapel.

Corey Feldman, who previously said he would not be making the trip to honor his old friend because the funeral was meant to be a "small, private affair," was not in attendance.

The 38-year-old former child star died of "pulmonary congestion" on March 10th in Los Angeles.

X17online has learned that a larger memorial in LA will take place on April 2 or 3.

Corey Haim's Agent Opens Up About The Actor's Final Days

Mar 15, 2010 12:00 PM

coreyautopsy.jpgIt was just last Wednesday when the world learned of Corey Haim's death. Tomorrow in Toronto, Canada, those who knew the 38-year-old actor will be able to pay their final respects.

Corey's agent, Mark Heslip tells X17online: "It'll be a private funeral for very select friends and family."

Heslip also confirms that Corey's mom told him that the actor had died of congestive heart failure, water in the lungs and an enlarged heart. The LA County Coroner's Office has not released an official cause of death pending the return of toxicology reports.

Heslip, who was Haim's first talent agent in 10 years, tells us: "Corey was seeing an addiction specialist. He was coming off the pills. I told him that if he wants me to represent him, the drug addiction has to go bye bye."

Haim had also been seeing an LA doctor recently, who Hesslip says, had prescribed Corey "several bottles." He claims he does not know the names of the medications, nor the name of the doctor.

As for whether buddy Corey Feldman will be attending the Toronto funeral...a source close to the Haim family tells X17online "He was definitely invited to the service, but we doubt he'll be attending."

The Haim family will be holding a public memorial here in Los Angeles that will be more accessible to the public. The date has not yet been revealed.

Corey had wrapped two feature films before his death: American Sunset and Decisions.

Illegal Prescription Drug Ring Linked To Corey Haim's Death

Mar 13, 2010 11:25 AM

coreyautopsy.jpg California Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. said yesterday that an "illegal and massive prescription-drug ring" linked to the death of Corey Haim is currently being investigated, and he released the following statement regarding the matter:

"Corey Haim's death is yet another tragedy linked to the growing problem of prescription-drug abuse. This problem is increasingly linked to criminal organizations ... It's a serious public health problem."

Though Corey's mother Judy told the press that he died from pulmonary congestion, LA County Coroner Assistant Chief Ed Winter says that the final cause of death is still pending. Winter released the following statement:

"We did an autopsy. We gave his mother some preliminary findings but it does not mean it is the final cause of death. The final cause of death is pending toxicology and other reports. We did discuss issues involving his heart and lungs. We are not going to comment on specifics until the final results come back. It could be up to six weeks."

Looks like we've finally learned the cause of death...

Corey Haim's mother, Judy, confirms to Access Hollywood that her late son died of pulmonary congestion.

Judy says that she received an early courtesy call from the LA County Coroner's Office about the autopsy. It seems Corey also had an enlarged heart and his lungs were filled with water.

The coroner has yet to confirm whether the medication from the prescription bottles found near Corey's body were actually in his system.

Additionally, Haim's manager Marc Haislip confirmed to Us that the late actor will be buried in his native Toronto. "But there will be a memorial in LA," he adds.
