We still think of her as the adorable little girl from I Am Sam, so it's weird seeing her acting like such a bad girl!

Dakota Fanning is tapping into her edgy side with her role in the upcoming movie Every Secret Thing, and if we didn't already know she was on-set filming, we would have assumed the teenage actress is channeling her good friend and onetime co-star Kristen Stewart with the grungy outfit and nasty smoking habit!

The flick follows the story of two 11-year-old girls who are convicted of murdering a baby and are incarcerated until they turn 18. Upon their release, children start to go missing, prompting a reopened investigation into the original murders that landed them in jail.

We can't wait to see Miss Fanning break out from her good girl image!

K-Stew is lucky to have a friend like Miss Fanning!

Dakota Fanning starred in Twilight and The Runaways with Kristen Stewart and in the process developed a close friendship with the actress, so she didn't hesitate to defend her pal in the newest InStyle magazine when the cheating scandal was brought up.

"Everyone thinks they have the right to, you know, publicize the struggles and sadness and heartbreak and all of that. It's like, 'Why do you think you are the authority to judge people's experiences?' she explained.

When it comes to her own relationships, the award-winning star's approach is to keep her personal life private. The blonde covergirl confesses she's only had one boyfriend in her life and is currently single.

"You know, I'm not the kind of girl or person who really wants boyfriends in my life. I'm also the kind of person... I'm very black and white in what I feel and I don't wanna be with someone that I don't foresee spending a long time with," she adds.

It's refreshing to see a child star mature in the limelight and avoid the usual pitfalls of fame!

Dakota Fanning may be one of the only celeb not hawking Proactive acne wash, but she might want to consider it!

The Runaways star exited a Studio City gym on Thursday afternoon sans makeup, and it looks like she's suffering from a minor breakout on her chin which is totally typical for a super busy 18-year-old!

Fanning is on summer break from NYU, and has been busy filming the upcoming flick, Very Good Girls, with Elizabeth Olsen, which centers on two NYC girls who make a pact to lose their virginity during their first summer out of high school. Quite an edgy choice for the former child star!

Dakota's happy to be back to work!

Cameras caught the 18-year-old actress looking casual in New York City as she was filming a scene with Boyd Holbrook in her upcoming film, Very Good Girls.

The movie, which also stars Elizabeth Olsen, tells the story about two girls who make a pact to lose their virginity during their first summer out of high school. The drama is expected to hit theaters in 2013. Can't wait to see the finished product!

We don't expect anyone to wear makeup during a workout, but we have to say... sometimes a little bronzer makes a big difference!

Dakota Fanning went makeup-free to the gym on Wednesday, and the Twilight actress looked a little bit like the vampire she plays in the hit movie. Although we applaud her for shunning the sun, since we all know it ages you prematurely. How Nicole Kidman of her!

Later in the day we caught her shopping on Melrose in Hollywood, and the 18-year-old looked adorable in a swan print dress, green strappy sandals, and round shades as she splashed out her cash on some new fashions.

One thing's for sure - Miss Fanning is seeing the world from rose-colored glasses!

Dakota Fanning is home for the holidays!

The Runaways star displayed a makeup-free (and a noticeably fuller) face, as she touched down in LA Thursday night, looking a bit tired after her six-hour flight.

Not only is Fanning currently enrolled in her first year at NYU, she also has FOUR movie coming out next year!

The 17-year-old will appear in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, Effie with Emma Thompson, The Motel Life, and Now Is Good.

Looks like 2012 will be Dakota's year to shine!

The college freshman, just enrolled at NYU, tells the mag she remembers her first on-screen kiss in Sweet Home Alabama when she was 7 years old, saying she wasn't nervous at all to shoot the scene. Neither was she nervous shooting the sexy fragrance campaign with celebrated photographer Terry Richardson and neither was she weirded out by starring opposite Sean Penn in her first film. The girl has nerves of steal!

And an interesting fact about her sister Elle? She still takes ballet five days a week! Elle also talks about her first trip to Paris, when she was invited to the Chanel show during Fashion Week. She said it was a dream come true and that her dream job would be shooting a film in the City of Lights.

Uh, yeah ... us too! And being a Fanning girl wouldn't be so bad either!

Of course, she still looks amazing, but we're wondering what happened to little girl who played Tom Cruise's young daughter in War of Worlds just six years ago!
