Daniel Radcliffe: "I Became So Reliant On Alcohol"
Posted on Mon Jul 4, 2011 10:30 AM PDT
Daniel Radcliffe, 22, has given up drinking.
The actor, who says he has not drank alcohol since August 2010, tells GQ in a new interview:
- "I became so reliant on alcohol to enjoy stuff. There were a few years there when I was just so enamored with the idea of living some sort of famous person’s lifestyle that really isn’t suited to me."
And, he says his new lifestyle has helped his relationship with his girlfriend (who he does not identify). "I’m actually enjoying the fact I can have a relationship with my girlfriend where I’m really pleasant and I’m not f*****g up totally all the time," Radcliffe says.
The Harry Potter star says he had a problem with moderation.
- "As much as I would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time, that doesn’t work for me."
Radcliffe, who is currently starring on Broadway in the well-reviewed revival of How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, has amassed a fortune of almost $77 million.
But Radcliffe's not going to use it on alcohol, or other vices, apparently. " ... the main thing about having money is it means you don't have to worry about it," he says. "And that for me is a lovely thing. It's not for fast cars and hookers."

it is nice to see that someone in the industry being honest about abusing alcohol and that it really is something that you dont fool with as it can kill you its either parks or gardens jail death or insanity :)
it takes a mature person to realize if alcohol is for them or not. And it takes an even more mature person and stronger person to not fall to peer pressure. because when you go out and socialize today - if you don't drink alcohol, everyone looks at you like you are crazy and boring...
