MWF Over 40 Seeks Career

L.A.'s hottest cougar, Demi Moore, is complaining about ageism in Hollywood. The once-famous actress (now 44) explains that "for many female actors, who turn 40, it means the end of their career, it's time to retire." Really? I didn't know the film industry cared about looks. Demi also says that whatever roles there are for women over 40 "don't have much substance." On the contrary, I thought Striptease was bursting with intelligence and meaning!
But in all seriousness, Demi's managed to snag the handsome (if mischievous) Ashton Kutcher, pop out three kids with action star Bruce Willis and been able to stay looking fabulous (with a little scientific help, of course). So what if she's not acting as much anymore? She was never that good to begin with!
Her and Ashton need to have a couple kids of their own soon - then Demi can do another Vanity Fair cover!

Demi should not complain. When she was at the height of her career did she give older actresses roles opposite her and help their careers.Some with Sharon Stone. They didn't give a damn about older actresses. Doesn't she have enough money? Why not help out new directors and let everyone know you are willing to ACT for scale? Jodie Foster is 44 and seems to be doing just fine.
Sigourney Weaver, Meryl Streep, Sally Field, Diane Lane, Michelle Pfeiffer, Catherine Keener, & Patricia Heaton. Demi needs to quit her bitchin' and just get back to work. Not sure if she has the "acting chops" of these other actresses though.
it's true there's a double standard for older men and women.
older men can look like shit and be wise and intense, and star as a sexy lead. women have to look pretty and youthful or play a scary mean witch character. that's what she means there's not depth to older women's characters. there aren't that many movies centering around the wisdom and coolness of intense, not pretty, older women. hollywood is patriarchal and shit has to be serving the male in most ways. p.s. demi kicked ass in GI jane. she can act her ass off.
I dont know, everytime I see a photo of her, I think of that damm knee operation she had! That was just a bit over the top. I would have kept that a secret.
If she was a better actress, like 5O something Meryl or Glenn, maybe she'd get some roles. Trouble is, she went to all that trouble to look young, so she isn't hired for age appropriate roles, but she doesn't look like a 25 year old either. She should have let nature have it's way, or done less, at least... a nip or tuck.. a bit of camera ready freshness. But no... she tried to turn back the clock and is in limbo.
Sure, Hollywood has a double standard for women, but many women over 40 are working, and Demi should be glad for them.
I think she's a great actress, I've alway liked demi. She shouldn't have gone on that 5 year break, then she would still be an A lister.

Demi Moore is a horrible, untalented actress. The only way she got parts in her 30's was to take her top off. I agree with the other posters that real talented actresses don't seem to have a hard time getting roles (damn, look at Judi Dench and Helen Mirren!!!!!)
Demi spent thousands of dollars on plastic surgery to look younger so she could snag that ugly no talent kid she's married to when she should have spent that money on acting lessons. Boo hoo hoo. Cry me a river Demi. Then shut up.
Ashton must be so in love because I don't think it's healthy for a woman to have kids at age 44.. that's the age where you start becoming a grandman! but she sure looks great even though she paid to look that way.

I think Demi has managed to stay beautiful. As for the remarks about her inability to act, hands down she's better than half of those on screen in Hollywood right now so ease up on the hate there.
