Marvel Fires Ed Norton From Avengers Remake, Slams Him For Not Being "Creative" Or "Passionate"
Posted on Mon Jul 12, 2010 11:49 AM PDT

Ouch! What did two-time Academy Award nominee Edward Norton do to deserve this?
Marvel has released the following statement about the actor and his involvement in the latest Avengers remake... and it's pretty nasty!
- "We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in The Avengers. Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert, Chris H., Chris E., Sam, Scarlett, and all of our talented casts. We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks."
Norton is extremely talented - what's UP Primal Fear and American History X! - but perhaps he's not a team player?
A rep for the actor had this to say: "This offensive statement from Kevin Feige at Marvel is a purposefully misleading, inappropriate attempt to paint our client in a negative light... This seemed to us to be a financial decision but, whatever the case, it is completely their prerogative, and we accepted their decision with no hard feelings."
What's going on here???

Ed Norton is an amazing actor and an all around nice guy. This press release seems so childish, but I guess coming from Marvel, I expect it!
Norton considers himself an intellectual who also happens to be an actor. Actors read lines and do as the director says. Intellectuals think they always know what's best. Does anyone wonder why there is a problem? Edward, become a director or screenwriter, otherwise shut-up and read your lines. You can't have it both ways.
I agree with anonymous
I love Ed Norton and think he is one of our great actors. But I can see the things Marvel said being true. He seems like a prickly person. It's too bad they couldn't have parted ways quietly and saved face.
He is a great actor, but he is also an arrogant douchebag and that probably has a lot to do with it.
People just get sick of people like him sometimes.
