Elton John Performs In Israel After Other Artists Cancel In Protest

Elton John was one of the few artists who refused to cancel a scheduled concert in Tel Aviv, telling the crowd, "Ain't gonna stop me from coming here, baby!" during a show on Thursday night.
Artists such as Elvis Costello and The Pixies have cancelled their shows in response to a call for a boycott of the Jewish state after at least 10 people were killed on a boat loaded with supplies on its way to Gaza.
"That is what we do. We do not cherry-pick our consciences, OK?" John said to the crowd, perhaps taking aim at the others who are participating in the boycott.
Course, John has never been one to shy away from performing in controversial places; Earlier this month he sang at the wedding of Rush Limbaugh.

I don't understand why artist get involved in politics in the first place. They should put up a great show for their fans - who paid their hard earned cash to buy their tickets.
Totally agree with 2:33. Elton preforms for his fans, not the Israeli government. The Pixies and Costello should have done the same, regardless of their political opinion.

Those artists who targeted Israel don't examine the actions of every other country they perform in. If they did, they would never play anywhere. It's an obvious case of age-old prejudice. Elton John should be praised for not taking the popular, easy and bigoted way out.

Take it easy on Elton because I like "Rocket Man." It might not be just for money or lack of principles related to human rights, even though he is gay. His wife is Jewish and a supposed Zionist. Social relations, intimate or otherwise, can be calculated factors in determining political-artistic decisions, such as performing in a terrorist rogue state when its rightful inhabitant are suffering tremendously, just like during the Warsaw Ghetto.
The Palestinians could of used their resources to develop industry and create jobs in Gaza but they chose to build missiles instead and lob them into Israel. Now they have to pay the price. Israel says they will let all the ships in with food and medicine if they can check them for weapons first. Palestinians object because they want to smuggle in weapons. It's a shame the Palestinian people are held captive by the radicals who took control there and now they will all just sit back and die when they could build a thriving country for themselves. By the way, most of those Palestinians were forced out of other mideastern countries and into Israel when Israel was formed. They didn't want the radicals in their countries either. Liberals always support those who are in the wrong.
Elton performing has nothing to do with politics! He made no political statements. People choose to make it political.
