George Clooney Personally Donating $1 Million To Haiti
Posted on Thu Jan 21, 2010 03:15 PM PDT
We love it when a celeb puts their money where their mouth is!
In addition to hosting the Hope For Haiti telethon tomorrow evening, George Clooney is donating $1 million to the relief efforts to help the nation - and he's not the only one in the million dollar club! Sandra Bullock, Gisele Bundchen and Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have all made seven figure donations, and hopefully even more celebs will be added to this list.
It's just been announced that Madonna and Beyonce will be joining the star studded roster, which already includes celebs like Leonardo DiCaprio, Rob Pattinson, Jennifer Aniston, Jake Gyllenhaal, Brad Pitt, Ellen DeGeneres, Sandra Bullock, Zac Efron, Bradley Cooper, Renee Zellweger, Chris Pine, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Colin Farrell, Anderson Cooper, Wyclef Jean, Gabby Sidibe and Emily Blunt. Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Shakira, Jay-Z, Bono and Bruce Springsteen are all set to perform in Los Angeles, New York and London.
Check out the first promo for the telethon, which will air on over a dozen networks tomorrow at 8pm:

Very few things offend me more than celebrities who feel the need to announce (or ensure that someone else will "accidentally" announce) that they are giving money to charitable efforts. This is nothing but PR and a tax write-off. Go to Haiti, George. Spend 6 months there with boots on the ground, actually working to help out. No camera crews. No special treatment or protection. Just you.
I think the $1,000,000 will put to much better use than him being there and getting in the way . . . leave the work to trained professionals not actors . . .
Thank you George.
Good man.
I think this is a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. People get on you if you say how much you give (George, Madonna, etc) and they get on you if you don't say if/how much you gave (Oprah).
Leo DiCaprio also donated a million dollars to the Clinton-Bush Haiti fund.I agree with the damned if you do, damned if you don't comment. I personally think it is fine if the donations are announced.

Big deal, he can afford it. But he had to let the world know didn't he? Couldn't do it quietly.... If he goes over to Haiti and starts getting dirty then I'll pat his back.
Gisele gave $1.5 million to the Red Cross
Yeah, G. Clooney, L. Di Caprio, S. Bullock... gave 1M INDIVIDUALLY, while the Brangelinas gave the same amount TOGETHER! And still they are presented as the most generous...
