Ricky Gervais' controversial hosting style has not only raised a few eyebrows, but also the ratings for The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards.
Close to 17 million viewers tuned in to watch the British comedian blast certain celebrities with off-colored remarks. That's a five percent increase from last year's 16.98 million. Last night's highly-rated awards show secured NBC a win for the 8 - 11pm time slot.
As for whether the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will ask Gervais to host the 2012 Golden Globes, he tells USA Today:
- "That's ominous, isn't it? So I probably won't be here next year. I'll go f**king mental."
So far, x17online voters think Ricky could have gone further with his jokes with 60% saying they love his humor.
Looks like controversy equals ratings.

That's less than a one percent increase, not five. :-P
I like him. He didn't a$$ kissing like most hosts/reporters in town. So true about the comments about the gals from "Sex in the City".
he was GREAT!! it was funny and entertaining.....too many stuffed shirts there to appreicate good humor!
What he did last night was NO different than what Kayne West did to Taylor Swift at the Video Music Awards.Do you get a pass if your the Host if so can't wait for Kayne to Host the 2011 VMAs.
he was great - so funny! i hope he comes back next year. to bad he isn't hosting the oscars. i think james franco and anne hathaway are going to be boring. someone like ricky keeps everyone on their toes - you never know what he is going to say. its more exciting with someone like him as these award shows can get quite boring with the acceptance speeches and all. you notice how every actor makes a fool of themselves with their speeches? even the best of the best get up there and as you are sitting in your living room watching this, you get embarrased for them. the only classy speeches last night were from colin firth and when michael douglas got up there. everyone else made fools of themselves (i.e. al pacino, christian bale, melissa leo, diane warren, paul giamatti, even natalie portman). why is it that they do that? you don't need to tell your kids to go to bed, or the usual one is, "oh, there telling me to cut it short, oh i have to hurry, blah blah, blah". ricky gervais lit up the show, he was fantastic. oh and one more thing, christian bale should have acknowledged the other actors in his category like everyone else does, but he has no class. you could tell he was classless the minute he opened up his mouth. ok, i know, nuff said. over and out.
Bet the Oscars don't get the viewers the Golden Globes had. I thought Ricky did great! Of coarse, he wouldn't have had anything to joke about if people hadn't given him the material in the first place. What did he say that wasn't true? We're talking about some half a$$ movies, and some overpayed actors that expect to be treated like royalty, for some unknown reason.
12:36, it was altogether different from what K.West did. West had no business on the stage, much less grabbing the mic and interupting Taylors acceptance speech. The guy's a jerk!

Reminded me of the old Dean Martin roasts! Dean and his crew were hilarious...and that included all shades and genders. Loved Ricky! Loosen up peeps. People are starving. That's an issue we should get upset about...every single one of us.
