Heath's Death Ruled "Accidental Overdose"
Posted on Wed Feb 6, 2008 08:07 AM PDT
While his friends and family gather in Australia to bury Heath Ledger, Us is reporting that authorities in New York have just released their official report on the actor's death.
Ellen Borakave, spokesperson for Office of Chief Medical Examiner, informed the magazine this morning that Ledger's death was "[an] accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications."
Toxicology reports showed that Ledger's death was brought about by the combination of drugs the actor was ingesting.
Borakave claims that Ledger's death was consistent with a reaction to oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine.
Three of those medications - diazepam (aka Valium), temazepam (aka Restoril), and alprazolam (aka Xanex) - were found among Ledger's medications by the NYPD.
What a sad way to go - but at least Heath's loved ones finally have a few answers!
Remember, people - mixing medications can be incredibly dangerous!

what a lame ass, money doesn't buy happiness. sad
Damn! Wish he could've given Shitney the cocktail mixture before he left. Dayuuum!
At least you aren't idiots like cbsnews' showbuzz site that is saying "hydrocodone, another name for ibuprofen" morons.
Why on earth he thought he could take all of those things at once to help him sleep is beyond me. Very, very sad. I hope all the people who accused him of dying from a coke overdose eat shit.
All very addictive "prescribed" medications. Glad it wasn't intentional, though. Very talented guy.
At least with all that, we know he went peacefully... RIP
So many ugly, sad fucks in Hollywood and the Enter-tainted business.
bi babe you are nasty
fake bi-babe isn't nasty. she's filthy. and she has a little boy. unbelievable.

HOW SAD :(, I CAN'T BELIEVE HE DEAD
I LOVED HIM...
HIS FANS WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM.
YOUR FANS WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU HEATH!!!!!!!!!!!
SAD,SAD,SAD!
I have a DEEEEEEEEEP cold stanky dry festering hole. Just so you all know....and in case any of you all were wondering I am BI ZZZZZEXSHUUUUAAAAL. dayum!
any idiot knows that takeing all these pills can kill u accidental my ass just becaues he was abusing legal drugs dosent make him less of a junkie, he did it so many times b4 and this time it killed him its called a high risk life style.
PERSCRIPTION DRUGS OR NOT IT WAS DRIUG ABUSE THAT KILLED HIM - ABUSE OF OPIATES
HYDROCODONE AND OXYCODONE ARE CONVERTED INTO MORPHINE IN THE BRAIN - JUST LIKE HEROIN IS.
PEOPLE CAN SPIN THIS HOWEVER THEY WANT - HE BASCIALLY OD'D ON HEROIN AND ANYONE WHO KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT PHARMACOLOGY WILL ATTEST TO THAT.
If I was his family I would not try to sugarcoat this. People need to learn from his mistake. Drugs, legal or not, are killing our youth. Destroying families (his daughter is left with no father) and bringing our nation down. Everyone in hollywood is so worried about heath's reputation. No one defended Anna Nicole Smith. Why is he any different? How sad.
How sad!!!!! He was an excellent, talented actor, its so sad:((((((((
The following are all the drugs found in Heath's system at the time of death. It sounds like he went to sleep/passed out and never had the chance to wake up
1.Oxycodone is commercially made from thebaine, an opiate alkaloid and minor component of opium
2.Hydrocodone as a narcotic, hydrocodone relieves pain by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord.
3.Diazepam It possesses anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, sedative, skeletal muscle relaxant and amnestic properties
4. Temazepam is a powerful hypnotic benzodiazepine which possesses strong sedative, amnestic and motor impairing properties.
5. Alprazolam also known under the trade names Xanax and used to treat moderate to severe anxiety disorders.
6. Doxylamine is one of the many sedating antihistamines used by itself as a short-term sleep aid, in combination with other drugs as a night-time cold and allergy relief drug
Im with :( Have some fricken respect!! Take your pathetic drama elsewhere and have some class!!!!
Nevertheless, another good soul is gone...RIP Heath! We will miss you!!!! (At least those of us who really care and have respect!!!)
Lorazepam (Ativan) is a very dangerous drug because it causes anterograde amnesia. While under its influence, especially when combined with other scheduled drugs such as oxycodone (Schedule ll) and hydrocodone (Schedule III), it can cause the user to lose control of his thought process. While so influenced, the addict will take even larger quantities of opiates in order to achieve the amount of euphoria that he is wanting to achieve.
Typically, the addict will act this way. Adding in the other schedule III benzodiazepines such as alprazolam and temazepam, and the person will lose all of the ability to control himself. He will do things, perhaps even appropriately, that he will never remember because of the anterograde amnesia. He will keep taking opiates until he achieves the desired result. In many cases, this will cause death from respiratory arrest followed by cardiac standstill. Were the results of Heath's autopsy available, doubtless these effects and results would be noted in the cause of death.
Not known by the addict-user, is the fact that metabolites are formed in the body and they can be over 100 hours, and adding another drug on top of it, will inordinately add to the danger of one losing command of their faculties. Many hours after taking the combination can and does add this greater danger.
It is indeed a terrible thing that he did this, and should be an alert to any person taking these medications properly under a physician's order; they should not exceed the quantities the physician prescribes, nor should they "doctor shop" in order to obtain a larger quantity because they have found pleasure from taking the pain-relieving quantity. This message should be received by all persons taking the combination of opiates and benzodiazepines, to take them only as prescribed.
