The Dark Knight Breaks Box Office Records For Midnight Opening
Posted on Fri Jul 18, 2008 02:40 PM PDT
The Dark Knight shattered box office records for the midnight opening, earning an unprecedented $18,489,000 at the box office last night. Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures made the announcement today, and added:
“We have been thrilled by the response to The Dark Knight, first from the critics and now from audiences. From our earliest screenings, the buzz on the film has been white hot and it hasn’t let up. Now that the opening weekend is here, we are very excited to finally share The Dark Knight with moviegoers nationwide.”
The 12:01 a.m. opening grosses beat the previous record of $16.9 million, which was held by Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith from May of 2005. Insiders have predicted that the film could make up to $150 million this weekend, and Heath Ledger has already gotten Oscar buzz for his role as the Joker.
We can't wait to see it!!!!
Do you think the film would have pulled in these kinds of numbers if Heath were alive today?

Now, let's see---Is it worth it to die of a drug overdose to get a hit movie and a potential Oscar nomination? I guess only Hollyweirdo knows for sure.
No values.
awesome! broke some records and all it took was one of the lead stars dying! fuckin' a, warner bros!!! keep kicking ass and kudos for your "white hot" buzz!
line those pockets, Dan Fellman, line them right up! maybe you can buy ledger's life rights and make some more money from his death! ALRIGHT!!!!!
Actually I think it's gonna be a great movies dumba**
TLN, that has nothing to do with either of the comments above yours, but thanks for your opinion as to it gonna be "a great movies".
love,

I loved the movie! He has/had talent!
I saw the movie tonight
1) it was worth sitting in line for an hour and a half
2) heaths performance dead or alive MAKES THIS MOVIE. he brought to the character what every villain should: Passion.
the movie has some great moments and thankfully katie holmes didn't muck it up this time.
Yes its getting more attention because heath died...but the original got a crap load of money too. The midnight showing box office pull is a tribute to an amazing actor taken away too soon.
Remember! heath was given drugs by dimwitted doctors who didnt pay enough attention. he was not a druggie. If you watch this movie you'll know why he had so many psychological problems afterwards.
How sad that Heath had so many prescription drugs handy that he could actually overdose if he forgot which ones he took when. How very, very sad. And how criminal of the doctor(s) who gave him all that access to those drugs.
