James Franco On Hosting The Oscars: "I Was So Pissed"
Posted on Mon Jul 11, 2011 09:30 AM PDT
James Franco is addressing his poorly reviewed Oscar host performance in the latest issue of Playboy, and he slams the awards show's writers and producers.
"I said to the producer, 'I don't know why you hired me, because you haven't given me anything,'" he tells the magazine. "'I just don't think this stuff's going to be good.'"
Franco notes that his least favorite part of his hosting gig with Anne Hathaway was when he came out dressed as Marilyn Monroe. He says:
- "I was so pissed about that I was deliberately going to fall onstage and hopefully my dress would fall off or something -- they couldn't blame that on me; I was in high heels. ... I just didn't want to fight anymore, even when they said, 'You'll come out as Marilyn Monroe. It'll be funny.' Me in drag is not funny ... I just didn't want to argue anymore."
Franco said the awards show literally felt like a sinking ship. "I felt kind of trapped in that material," he said. "I felt, This is not my boat. I'm just a passenger, but I'm going down and there's no way out."
James even said he tried to get other writers involved in the show.
- "There were a lot of cooks [writers] who shouldn't have been cooking but were allowed to. There were some cooks my manager tried to bring in, like Judd Apatow, who wrote some very funny stuff that wasn't used."

No matter what he's a hottie..
Why is he getting all the flak? Anne Hathaway was awful, too and she doesn't even acknowledge that she sucked, just lets James take the fall. Classy!
ummm...he could have REFUSED to do it...now, he is talking out his ass. He did a lousy job, get over it.
he's hot
He is coming across like a spoiled brat...
Anonymous 01:58PM, James is not getting flak in this article - nor is he really getting any flak at all for his performance anymore - he is giving everybody else involved the flak! He's being way too precious about something that is already in the back of most peoples' minds. He's the one that took such a risk. James is no comedian.
That said, I find it quite funny that his complaining is pushing him in a downward slope, similar to the his personal experience at the Oscars.
Handsome and hot.. i didn't like his hosting though
This guy is a world-class pussy. He has everything handed to him, and all he can do is shuffle blame around. Man up, Jimmy!
(And while we're on the subject of courage, come out of the closet already. There's somebody in Idaho who still thinks you're straight....)
I like him alot now for knowing how stupid that show was. It was painful to see him and drag and the whole show was disgusting.
I thought I was imagining it. I could see during the Oscars how unenthusiastic and indifferent he looked. But, like another poster commented, he could have walked away and let someone else do it. Boo-hoo!
I think anne hathaway was worse. I mean she is just so annoying. I WILL NOT WATCH HER IN BATMAN!!!!!!!!!!
He looks ten years older than his chronological age. He acts 20 years younger than his chronological age. Maybe that's what makes him special. I can't identify anything else that would. Yawn.
