Willow Smith Lands Record Deal With Jay-Z
Posted on Thu Sep 9, 2010 02:40 PM PDT
Willow Smith is getting ready to take the music world by storm with her new single, Whip My Hair. Will and Jada's 9-year-old daughter announced this morning on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, KIIS-FM, that Jay-Z has signed her to his label, Roc Nation.
Jay-Z, who also appeared on the radio show, describes how he felt after hearing the catchy song, telling Seacrest:
- "I was like, 'Man, that record's a smash.' And then [Roc Nation partner] Jay Brown said, 'She's 9,' and I was like, 'Whoa!' And [then] he was like, 'She's Will and Jada's daughter,' and I was like, 'Whoa!' and it just went from there."

As for the first time meeting Willow, Beyonce's hubby says:
- "She walked in and the first thing she said was, 'I'm really nervous,' and I thought, 'That's maturity to explain exactly how she was feeling when she walked right into the room.' I knew right then she was a star. I believe in superstars. I believe in big records and superstars, and I think she has both."
Willow had this to say about Whip My Hair's meaning:
- "It means just be an individual. Like, you can't be afraid to be yourself, you have to be yourself, and you can't let anyone tell you that that's wrong. My mom teaches me to say how I feel all the time. My mom and me are very strong individuals and I just know that, because lots of people, they don't act like themselves, so they're not happy."
Jay-Z also compared Willow to Rihanna, whom he also discovered. The video for Whip My Hair will be filmed later this month.
Sounds like the Smiths have another young star on their hands!

Nothing like nepotism.
I swear black people place no value on education, no matter how rich they are.
This child and her brother should be in school, not being pimped out.
Simmons kids are the same, million and millions of dollars and not a college degree among them.
This also applies to the Kardashians who even though they are not black, may as well be...
I totally agree...it's disgusting!
Lame. You dont hear much about Will's son from a previous relationship but yet his kids with Jaeda are all over the media being pimped out. I agree with the above statement that these children should be in school.
Education is something to be valued. I'd rather be educated and have my anonymity than uneducated and in the spotlight. I always cringe when I hear interviews with famous people and they have the IQ of a toaster.
Let kids be kids. She's gonna be knocked up by 16 fosho
Calling you all are basically calling "black" people dumb...right? the oldest son is in football doesn't really care about fame. Plus there are tons of "white" kids who get "pimped out" just as much as black & any other race/ethincy..so i really don't see where you get your facts. And you people really don't have much of a life to sit here and post comment's about a 9 year old who has big dreams. (white woman by the way)
You all are calling*
OH EM GEE! For shame. She is a little girl and should be playing with Barbies and out playing soccor - anything but this!

comparing that little girl to Rihanna? come on! That's disgusting! just look at the way they dressed her up on the picture where she's sitting on the radio! they dressed her up like some Rihanna-in-the-making. What world are we in? No values, no moral, no nothing. A 9 years-old child, come on guys!!!
CAN
NOT
BELIEVE
THIS
IS WHAT THEY WANT FOR THEIR DAUGHTER, IT IS DEPLORABLE.
ALL HER PARENTS CARE ABOUT IS MONEY AND FAME
WEIRD FAMILY, VERY WEIRD, THEN AGAIN..THEY ARE SCIENTOLOGISTS, SO THEY ARE BETTER THAN ALL OF US.
DUMB*SSES!
I doubt they're doing this for money. I mean, c'mon. They're already rich and successfull. Maybe the girl is excited about doing something in the business and the parents are allowing it. As long as she still goes to school, what's the big deal?
we live in a world full of rage, jealousy, anger and the like
the naggars are piping out their kid sick
what greaseballs whoring their kids out to the media,
that isnt jealousy or hate, it's common sense, you jackass
look at Michael Jackson, Lynsday Lohan, and a thousand others,
there are very stupid people on this site.
do your research, get stats on child stars and come back, youre funny and dumb
OMG
I just listened to her song "whi my hair"...not tryinig to be mean, but...
it sounds like every other jig on the planet tryinig to rap and sing with a "hood" accent, yes folks, she actually speaks "jig" as an accent to sound "hip"
HORRIBLE WAY TO RAISE A LITTLE GIRL. SO MANY OTHER COOL THINGS SHE COULD BE LEARNING.
KINDA SAD REALLY
Here's my beef. Look at all the hateful comments on this site and others. Why, as parents, would the Smiths put their 9 year old girl in this position. When they turn her into a celebrity, they open the floodgates for this kind of hatred. Have your child experience childhood and then at 18 if they're still interested, help them into the music business. I can make some sort of excuse for a family that needs the money, but the Smiths obviously don't. Protect your child, don't pimp them.
Jada and Will don't care if their kids don't have no talent, they want to make them famous and rich. Is up to us that we don't comply to their plans, all we have to do is not buy a record or see his kid's movie like the Karate Kid.
