X17 XCLUSIVE - Jennie Garth & PETA Go Up Against The Big Top

Posted on Wed Mar 31, 2010 10:50 AM PDT

jennylogo.jpgJennie Garth is taking a stand against abused circus animals! The 90210 actress has written a heartfelt letter on behalf of PETA to marketing firm and website Mom Central...asking them not to support and promote Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

PETA has sent Stacy DeBroff, Mom Central's CEO, photographs and undercover video footage of Ringling trainers as they beat and whipped elephants. But Mom Central continues to offer discounted circus tickets to various parenting blogs. Now Jennie has thrown her star power into the ring!

X17online exclusively has obtained Jennie's letter in which she writes:

"As the mother of three daughters, I appreciate resources like Mom Central that help working moms deal with the everyday experiences of parenthood. Since so many mothers turn to your Web site for guidance, I urge you to reevaluate your current partnership with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Please consider the animal abuse and family separation that you are actually endorsing by recommending this cruel show to your readers. In their natural habitat, mother and daughter elephants rarely leave each other's side. I implore you to consider the helpless animals who are forced to surrender their children to a lifetime of isolation and pain."

You can read Jennie's entire letter after the jump...

Dear Ms. DeBroff:

As the mother of three daughters, I appreciate resources like Mom Central that help working moms deal with the everyday experiences of parenthood. Since so many mothers turn to your Web site for guidance, I urge you to reevaluate your current partnership with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Please consider the animal abuse and family separation that you are actually endorsing by recommending this cruel show to your readers.

Photos taken at Ringling's facility (available at RinglingBeatsAnimals.com ) show frightened baby elephants who are forcibly stretched out, slammed to the ground, and wrestled by several adult men holding bullhooks—a heavy device with a sharp hook at one end that trainers use to beat elephants on the nerve-rich skin of the head, ears, trunk, and other sensitive areas. Any mother can recognize the pain and terror on these baby elephants' faces as they are roped around all four legs, tethered neck-to-neck to an anchor elephant, and dragged from their mothers—some while still nursing. After undergoing a year of daily violent training sessions, elephants continue to endure bullhook beatings and constant confinement as they travel from city to city—all for a few moments of entertainment.

In their natural habitat, mother and daughter elephants rarely leave each other's side. Because Mom Central is a resource that promotes support for all mothers, I implore you to consider the helpless animals who are forced to surrender their children to a lifetime of isolation and pain. Please do not continue to condone this cruelty. I urge you to end Mom Central's Ringling promotions.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Jennie Garth

love you jennie. thanks for your work to save those poor animals

I have zero respect for any celeb involving themselves with Peta.

They are too radical and offensive.

If you want to help animals, donate to and get involved with the SPCA.

another aging celeb trying to stay relevant by "saving" animals

I love animals but I hate Peta.

Twitter numbers are a pretty good indication of a celebrity's popularity.

But Jenny's letter is too big for twitter and she is just riding a cause for peta.

AWww Jenny must need better gigs cause she is jumping into the "activism bandwagon".

disingenious old cowbitch, how many animals died to make that face?

Thank you for addressing this. Rodeos are also cruel to animals. I would never take my children to the circus or a rodeo.

3:12- me either. Circuses are awful. Animals tortured in order to do tricks for stupid people. I watched those videos and it brought me to tears, those "people" are monsters to put those baby elephants through that.

I stopped blogging awhile back, but did want to comment on this.

I commend Jennie for being involved.
Any animal exposed to needless cruelty is appalling.
Elephants show some actual true emotions, such as crying at the death of another elephant, or when one sees another being harmed.
It is the saddest thing I have ever seen. I for one, would never support such events, as circus's or the like.
I also would recommend the Mom Central to re-evaluate their cause. If the children knew the behind the scenes torture, their little hearts would be broken, and they would never want to see another circus again.

Love Jennie and I love how she is trying to help poor animals, but maybe she's going a little far. She can't save everyone but love her for trying. Not a big fan of Peta myself though...at all!

X17 Poll

What went wrong on The X Factor today with Britney Spears?

Britney definitely had another meltdown. This is proof she's not ready to step back into the spotlight!
I think Britney may have overreacted to a bad audition, but it will be entertaining to watch later!
I think Simon Cowell planned this all along. Brit probably even rehearsed it!
