John Mayer Blogs About 'Hope'

Posted on Thu Oct 30, 2008 08:10 AM PDT

John Mayer JohnMayerBlogHope01.jpgJohn Mayer is expressing his hope for the future and why he's supporting Barack Obama for president in a blog on The Huffington Post website.

John writes that as a person in his early twenties in the time following 9/11, hope and optimism were hard to come by:

The social and political narrative of the last eight years, if you're a young adult, has been "you are the first generation of the second half of the rest of human existence." That's a huge psychological undertaking, and I believe it's one that will someday be diagnosed on a massive scale as having led to a kind of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. (Something has to explain away our premature obsession with 1980s nostalgia.) My generation has come to know itself as the generation that should have seen the good days, my, were they spectacular, now take off your shoes and place them on the belt.

John contends that Obama's message of 'hope' is more than just a political catch phrase, but that it is the encouragement America's youth needs to get out and do something, and not just sit around, 'waiting for the world to change.'

To those who question whether hope is a tangible product worth building a campaign around, I'd say take a look at despair and how powerful that has been in reshaping how people think and live. I believe the definition of the "hope" that Barack Obama enthuses operates on the unspoken thesis that there has to be a polar opposite to the despair of 9/11. Because if we accept that there's not, the will to live becomes forever altered. To adults who will vote for him, Barack Obama represents a return to prosperity. To the youth, he represents an introduction to it.

Well put John! Do you agree?

B."Hussein" Obama was not even born in the U.S! He lets babies die that come out alive after an attempted abortion!!! EVIL, that's what B.O. is !! People wake up please!!! McCain is not the best candidate, but he's better than B.O.!!

"Hope for prosperity." Is John Mayer poor? I guess the Fairness Doctrine is the hope you're looking for. No more talk radio if it doesn't agree with the government's views. Freedom of Speech, your First Amendment right, watch your rights start to disappear one by one if BO gets elected. BTW, President Ronald Reagan vetoed the Fairness Doctrine. He saw it for what it really is. We all want change for the better, but bigger government with more power isn't the answer. Also, BO wants to rewrite parts of the Constitution. Beware, Americans!

People like Obama use Hope because they can't talk about a record of leading and they can't really talk about their policy because then people would know that Obama wants to change what has made America great for the last 200 years from a competitive, entrepreneurial, upwardly mobile state into a welfare state with social protective programs. What this implies, undeniably, is that the United States would move away from running with the high GDP, high-growth nations rising today as economic and political powers and move over to retire with the low-growth economies we displaced -- old Europe. And to the youth who think to vote for Obama France, Germany, Italy age 18 to 29 unemployment rates has been for the last decade 22% to 30 % while America's has been 9% to 11%, when someone is promising you the world the bill usually comes in ways you don't think about until it's to late.

John Mayer makes a fool of himself yet one more time.

Posted by: john mayer Should have to spread his wealth around, but will Not

STATE RUN DNC CELEBRITY STRIKES AGAIN. John Mayer and many other super rich celebrities support Socialism & Barack Obama , but they will Not have too spread their wealth around.

Celebrites are like zombies. They just repeat each other. The words "Change" and "Hope" have been used in campaigns for years. Nothing new here. Obama knows he can brainwash the young people. The young suckers believe him.

Posted by: Repugnican'ts=LOSERS!!!

Awww, too bad bitter little Repugnican'ts! Your nasty, angry, vicious, war mongering McCainiac is Going To LOSE this Tuesday! Talk all the shit and lies you want, Obama is going to win and you know it! I love seeing you fools in a panic! Love It!!!!

Are you kidding me... this d bag has no idea who obama is and the only message of hope that he has ever said was off of a script!

Posted by: "HOPE"... (Hope Jen doesn't dump my ass again)!

No wonder he's voting for Hussein, all that dribble reads just like the carefully crafted words Obama reads off teleprompters every day. Poetic tap dancing written by professinal speech writers that inspire motivation despite telling you absolutely nothing of any substance.

Uhhh, John...9/11 was finishing the job that was started during the last Democrat Presidents watch. The terrorist first bombed the World Trade Centers in 1993 and were able to return in 2001 because Clinton didn't set up any type of Homeland Security to prevent them finishing the job.

X17 Poll

What went wrong on The X Factor today with Britney Spears?

Britney definitely had another meltdown. This is proof she's not ready to step back into the spotlight!
I think Britney may have overreacted to a bad audition, but it will be entertaining to watch later!
I think Simon Cowell planned this all along. Brit probably even rehearsed it!
