FBI to Interview Jude Law Over News of the World Phone Hacking Scandal
Posted on Fri Jul 22, 2011 11:35 AM PDT
The FBI is set to contact Jude Law following a lawsuit the actor filed, after his cell phone was allegedly hacked by News Corp., during a visit to NYC in 2003.
The lawsuit claims a story published by The News of the World on September 7, 2003, as well as four articles published between 2005 and 2006, were
solely based on private information that was contained in Law's voicemail.
The actor also claims his personal assistant, Ben Jackson, had his phone hacked by News of the World while the pair were at JFK airport.
Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., owners of News International, could face charges in the U.S. if the allegations are found to be valid, but the company adamantly denies any wrongdoing.
"We believe this is a deeply cynical and deliberately mischievous attempt to draw the Sun into the phone-hacking issue," News International said in a statement last week.
The FBI is also investigating claims News Corp. tried to hack into voicemail boxes from the victims of the 9/11 attacks.
Is this the beginning of the end for Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.?
