Katie Holmes has joined the cast of indie film, The Romantics, about a group of friends who reunite at a wedding.

Variety reports that Holmes has replaced Liv Tyler as the maid of honor to Anna Paquin's bride in the film, which she'll also executive produce.

The film was supposed to start production over the summer, but is set to begin shooting in New York this week, not too far from Boston, where Tom's currently filming Knight & Day!

So will Suri remain a Boston babe or go to New York with mom to be a Manhattan munchkin?

An attendee says that "Tom looked like he was in heaven" while Katie was "doing her best to look as enthusiastic."

John Travolta and Kelly Preston were also there, but appeared more "muted."

Most interestingly, Cruise was overheard chatting with a guest about the protesters outside, calling them "squirrels." He also said that they were "stuck in an electronic incident. It makes me so angry!"

Whoa! How rude. Wait, what does that even mean?

Katie always looks so chummy with Tom's former co-stars and last night at the Elle Women in Hollywood Tribute was no different, with Holmes chatting it up with Jerry Maguire co-star Renee Zellweger like they were old friends!

True, Zellweger and Cruise never dated in real life, but I somehow get the feeling Katie would be this friendly even to Tom's Vanilla Sky co-star and former gf, Penelope Cruz!

Guess she's just programmed that way.

Or something to perk her up a bit!

Katie Holmes is gorgeous and she certainly knows how to work it at photo shoots, but she looks sooo tired here! Then again, I don't exactly look like a million bucks minus the makeup either, so I shouldn't be too hard on her. Plus, chasing after the adorable and inquisitive Suri Cruise on a daily basis must wear her out...

Ahh, but I'm sure looking down at this rock is enough to brighten her day!

In Beantown for Tom's new comedic thriller Wichita, Tom, Katie and Suri spent a lazy Sunday going for a stroll and a Starbucks.

In their matching plaid, with adorable Suri in Katie's arms, the family looks picture-perfect!

Well, except for the large circles underneath Katie's eyes, those need a bit of retouching.

Isn't Katie the one on vacay? Can't she get some sleep? Or did all those fights about putting Suri in Catholic school keep her up at night?

Tom and Katie have apparently been fighting bitterly over the education of their daughter -- and it seems that Katie has won the battle and enrolled Suri in Catholic school!

The Daily Mail reports that Katie has enrolled her three-year-old at the Catholic Charities Yawkey Centre For Early Education And Learning in Boston.

The family's in Beantown for the fall while Tom shoots his new comedic thriller Wichita.

Katie, who was raised a devout Catholic, has been listening to her parents who've stressed the importance of a Catholic education, says a source.

"She is not convinced by Scientology and has told Tom that she wants Suri to be educated as a Catholic – as she was. They had been having huge problems agreeing on her school." The source continues, "To say they were having arguments is putting it mildly – but Tom came around to the idea in the end."

But does this mean Katie and Suri are no longer Scientologists?

Tom has always preached that being a Scientologist doesn't preclude you from being a Catholic/Jew/Buddist, etc., so perhaps Suri's just learning a little bit about the Pope as well as L. Ron Hubbard!

A stunning Katie Holmes graces the November issue of Elle Magazine, and we're not sure if it's the sexy orange dress or the playful smirk on her face, but Mrs. Tom Cruise is looking better than ever!

We haven't seen Katie on the big screen in a while (we'll have to wait until next year to see her in The Extra Man), but it looks like the actress has really taken to the role of dedicated mom and wife.

On family life:

“In my own life, my whole world really revolves around family. I do what I need to do, but it’s like, ‘How is everybody else doing?’ And it’s wonderful for me as an actress to put some of that into a character.”

On life as a working mom on the Broadway set of All My Sons:

“Suri would sit in my lap in the makeup chair. She’d hand the wig lady the bobby pins.“

On fashion:

"I love Alaia, for sure. Stella McCartney. I like Ralph Lauren because I feel like it’s very American, and I’m pretty all-American, from Ohio. Isabel Marant and a new designer, Sari Gueron."

On the genre of film she loves most:

"It can be any genre. I even like vampire movies – they just have to be well done. I want to believe in the characters. The minute it starts to feel not real, I’m not interested.”

Katie Holmes arrived home in LA from Australia last night and went straight from the airport to upscale boutique Maxfield in West Hollywood!

And, judging from her silky white shirt and shiny, skin-tight pants, it's a good thing she's going shopping.

Yeah, seriously! The Daily Mail reports that TomKat have helped inspire the designs for a new range of Church of Scientology uniforms...

A source says: "The scarlet-lined black capes with skirt and trouser suits are almost identical to the sort of clothes favored by Tom and Katie, if a little more vampire-themed."

Vampire-themed? What happened to just wearing a business suit or something!

Katie Holmes may be a whole lot of things (mom, aspiring fashion designer, actress, Broadway performer) but she's definitely NOT a fashion model, as evident from her many ad campaigns and magazine covers.

Perhaps she should take some lessons from Tyra Banks on how to smile with her eyes, because she looks so dead on the cover of Another mag, we're starting to get depressed!

But she does have pretty flawless bone structure, right? I don't know many women who would want to trade places with her, but I can certainly think of some who would love to have her face!

Not only can she sing, dance and act, but Katie Holmes can design clothes too! Well, that remains to be seen, but I guess we'll find out very soon!

After modeling teaser pieces for the past year, Women's Wear Daily reports that Katie is ready to unveil Holmes & Yang, the collection she’s been working with her stylist Jeanne Yang. The line includes women's and children's wear and it will launch exclusively at Maxfield in Los Angeles just in time for fall.

No word on how this stuff will be priced, but hopefully Katie decided to go the affordable route! Think Posh helped her with any of this?

Katie Holmes has apparently been approached to take a role in the next Sex And The City film, reports The Sun.

Though Katie hasn't done many movies over the past few years (not compared to what she used to, anyway...), studio execs are hopeful they can get her to play a feisty New York businesswoman in SATC sequel. A source told the paper, "The character they want her to play is a really ballsy, high-powered company executive who tangles with Samantha." Ooooh, we love it already!

Booo! Looks like this isn't gonna happen. A rep for the actress just told Access Hollywood there is “no truth” to the report, and a rep for Sarah Jessica Parker shot down the rumors too.

Poor thing!

Katie Holmes was filming Don't Be Afraid of the Dark in Australia - playing a woman stalked by evil gnomes, apparently - when the incident occurred. Radar reports that Tom Cruise's wife was in a car that caught on fire after the battery accidentally exploded... hope she's okay! Kinda scary, right?

We know she's a great actress and mom, but soon we'll get to see that Katie Holmes has a few other talents as well!

Katie will be singing and dancing on the upcoming 100th episode of So You Think You Can Dance on Fox. Suri's mom will be doing an homage to Judy Garland singing her classic Get Happy. "I'm very excited about it," Katie says. "I like to sing and dance so it is really fun."

Katie's performance will help create awareness for her Dizzy Feet Foundation, which helps underprivileged kids with dancing lessons.

The episode will air tomorrow night, July 23rd on Fox.

Okay, the rolled-up jean shorts? Still not hot! But everything else - the jacket, the sandals, the hair - is so fetch!
