I can't say that any certain thing is or is not art, because that's really subjective, but I will say that it's pretty blunt and how much thought actually went into this? It's like hey, this will make a splash. Plus, it's not really in good taste. I think what they were trying to create was shock value,something dramatic, but the message is just really negative to an extreme degree. It's one thing to provoke a reaction and that's part of art, but I think this is more detrimental and makes people feel uncomfortable more than it is artistic.

6:23, absolutely that's the "shock value" I was sort of referring to in my 5:56. I did gather that as being one of the messages, such as "this dramatic scene is what they want to portray of me, how I am bound to end up, how people want to see me, or how they make me feel" and I do see the artistic value of expressing that emotion in photograph. But, there are so many other negative aspects here too, and when a photographer is thinking about the scene, there is sort of an ethical obligation to consider whether the detrimental impact might outweigh the negative aspects & method of the message. There have been some very negative depictions of the Virgin Mary in modern art recently and it really offended and hurt people. Is that outcome worth making a statement or expressing a feeling? I don't know, I'm not judging, just think out loud.

6:43, I have a fairly large group of friends from broad range of social spectrums. A few are not necessarily the best for me personally in some ways, but by the same token, they are still very important to me. I think it's easier to do what I need to do to protect myself while still being there for them, whereas, as you suggest, Lindsay may not be capable. I'm a little older than her and have more life experience but a woman is free to choose her friends, and people sometimes have to just experience life (unfortunately mistakes too) to learn and gain that essential life experience. She will gain it too, but I would certainly like to see her Mother taking the upper hand with her because I think that is the perogative and obligation of a mother. That way, if someone is a negative influence and Lindsay isn't making informed decisions, she's there to bird dog it. But from what I've seen, I think Lindsay isn't receptive to receiving maternal control when called for and so Dina doesn't want to piss her off. But sometimes, I think that's just what a qualified parent must do. Provide guidance whether the daughter likes it or not. Lindsay probably wasn't raised to know parents authority reigns supreme in certain cases, so it's not likely gonna happen now.

The video is actually looks less severe than the stills. I think, especially with this kind of scene, it's gonna have a harder edge in photos. Had the photos been a little darker, it would have a less in your face affect which I think people might have received slightly better.

I personally think death and the darker side is a valid artistic topic, depending on the context. You see films like Schindler's List-there is death, violence and darkness. Very dark. The Passion of the Christ too. Explicit violence and suffering. But in those cases it's fundamental to an important underlying subject matter and completely necessary to tell the story. But there is something to be said about art that has no carefully plotted out "deeper meaning". It's just more random and done for the sake of the viewer formulating their own impressions, free from too much scripting. A kind of artistic freedom. Here, though, it's over the top to a degree and people have some very very valid reasons to be offended because a woman is the subject of something that takes on exploitative innuendos, which is what I think is disturbing about this.
