They're largely cast based on how they look, which means that there is constant turnover as the over-the-hill 25 year olds are pushed out by the up and coming 18 year olds. Only the very best (who truly excel in their craft) make a longer term career of it.

That's something that anyone who manages young actresses should be telling them -- That for the most part, they have a narrow window where they're going to be in demand, and they need to earn as much as possible while they're marketable.

Lindsay doesn't appear to be a formidably talented actress, but she had enough career momentum from her teen career to have made a nest egg for the rest of her life. Instead, she let success go to her head, embraced booze and drugs, and made herself practically unemployable in Hollywood.

Thos who talk about her potential "comeback" forget the cruel realities of the Hollwood system described above. Even assuming that producers were willing to overlook her past actions, Lindsay is rapidly getting too old-looking for roles that are cast largely on looks, and doesn't appear to be talented enough as an actress to get other roles. The Lohans should be seriously thinking about what Lindsay should be doing for the rest of her life. This goes double for sister Ali, who looks like she will end up being a never-was, rather than a has-been.
