Date Set For Madonna Adoption Appeal
Posted on Mon Apr 20, 2009 10:53 AM PDT
Madonna will continue her efforts to adopt a 3-year-old girl from Malawi in an appeal to be heard by a court in the African nation next month.
The 50-year-old's application to adopt Chifundo "Mercy" James was initially rejected because Madonna did not meet the country's residency requirements to adopt.
"We believe the lower court judged erred by basing her judgment on an archaic law of over 50 years ago," Madonna's attorney Alan Chinula said.
Madonna is not expected to attend the court hearing, which could last as long as two weeks and is expected to being on May 4th.
Do you think her appeal will be successful?

Malawi law requires that prospective adoptive parents must reside in Malawi for 18 months - Madonna didn't even try for 18 days. She returned home & mounted her appeal from the States. What does that tell us about her sincerity?
G/L
She doesn't even plan to be in Malawi for the two weeks the appeal might take? Maybe she should think about helping Mercy's family afford a better life in Malawi.
Madonna is a very busy woman. She has to spend time buying & furnishing mansions in New York and horseback riding in the Hamptons.
Why is she doing this anyway? What makes her think that nation is going to change their answer for her? The rule is she has to live there for a while, she doesn't seem to do that so the answer is NO!
stupid cow what is she trying to prove?
there are plenty of other children who need adoption and have absolutely no one
Her own kids must feel they aren't good enough she keeps wanting more. She should concentrate on spending time with them.
