Beach Bums Charged With Battery

Justice has been a long time coming in the case of June's brawl on the beach between the paps and the surfers - but after the D.A.'s office brought charges against the pap-bashers yesterday afternoon, we're one step closer!
The AP reports that Skylar Peak and Philip Hildebrand, two of the surfers, have been charged with misdemeanor battery for their part in the brawl, allegedly throwing a photographer and his camera into the water after he ignored their demands that he leave.
Howard Bragman, Peak's publicist (WTF? Since when do surfers need publicists?) responded to the charges by claiming that he and his client believe that "a complete investigation, including looking at the tapes, will show that Skylar defended himself." (A working phone number could not be located for Hildebrand.)
Charges have been slow in coming against the beach bums due to a lack of cooperative witnesses - but yesterday, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles district attorney's office said prosecutors finally felt they had enough evidence to pursue justice. Not that they need much more evidence beyond our video of the incident:
Shortly after the brawl went down, we spoke to plenty of folks who sided with X17, from Malibu natives to celebs like Dean Cain. (Seriously - even Superman's on our side here!) Meanwhile, even Matthew couldn't bring himself to stick up for his "defenders", staying silent when we asked him about the incident. Heck, the paps even staged a decidedly peaceful rally protesting their treatment at the surfers' hands - not exactly the kind of behavior you'd expect from folks alleged to have provoked a bunch of beach bums into beating them down!
Peak and Hildebrand will be arraigned in October. Better ride all the waves you can catch before then, guys - there's not a whole lot of surfing where you're going!

You guys are stupid.. they got a misdemeanor.. they will spend no jail time... just a fee.. ohhhhh my scary...haha (ive seen plenty of people fight.. they dont want to keep them in jail so they are let free.. ahhh american justice)
The fact remains..the paps got owned!! Sad that x17 still feels the need to "spin" this story, we all know what the truth is. Besides, there's a big difference between being "charged" with a crime and being convicted (right O.J.). They'll probably get a minor fine and no jail time...

I still can't muster any sympathy for the paps especially after ya'll went back twice after the original altercation. and then you got cussed out by some annoying bony broad in a kini and then you got tossed out by the cops. the paps antagonize ppl but don't think they should have repercussions for doing so. from what the paps say: being a papparazi can be lucretive. let's just say these beatdowns are hazards to your job. as much as I enjoy reading gossip blogs, I will NEVER BE ON YOUR SIDE.....

well that was a public beach, who are they to take the paps out of the property ..I hope those surfers get w/ they deserved...they are a bunch of loosers , drinkers, who want it to show off probably because the knew u guys were recording, and the woman that was screaming to the paps another looser..I hope they all get jail.

The Karma don't want anybody in jail, he wants to see all of you guys again. One by one. He never ask to any cop take anyone to jail! Don't look down when he walks on the beach. You can talk, but keep the distance and don't play around or you know the price.
They'll get jail time for battery, not just a fine, the courts do not simply fine people when you beat someone down like that, after 'demanding' that they "not go" to a public place-also illegal. Just because it's a 'misdemeanor' doesn't mean it's not serious, there are different classes of misdemeanor and they can be quite serious..for all these jerks that think this is 'ok' fku.. being beatup by an enraged ashle can cause serious injury..mccaugangy didn't ask these priks to defend him..hollywood bigshot..they will get nothing for their efforts to impress him, he doesn't care.
Thank you for stating the obvious: these jerks were not "surfers"; they were "beach bums." Surfers don't hang out on the beach in the middle of the day drinking beer. That's exactly what they do not do, unless they're tourists with long boards, or beach bums--like these guys.
I know Hildebrand and it was definitely the paps' fault... They instigated this whole thing by yelling indecent things to the surfers and finally, the surfers fought back. I definitely don't think these guys will end up in jail... If anything, charges should be pressed again the paps for something along the lines of harassment.
There need to be more than arrests. This Peak guy is supposed to work for the lifeguards. They should look into this. Hildebrand is a supposed photographer for Malibu Magazine. They should reconsider if they want this for their mag. Also, they both think they are promoters and clothing designers... typical.
