The fact is, whether the paps are sleazy or not, this is how they make a living, and the photos are their property. Perez did not ask for use of the photos, and did not credit the source: this is just wrong. However X17 requested that he remove the pictures, he certainly could have taken a higher road in responding. He was just SO juvenile and petty, I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

And as an aside, however any of us got to this page (yes, I, too found it through Perez), I am assuming that very very few of us are buying pictures from X17. What kind of advertising is that? It doesn't help them for bloggers to link here as they aren't making any money from us. The people who buy the pictures are most likely from the celeb weekly mags. If everyone has already seen all of the pictures, who is going to by them? The weeklies are going to go to other agencies with less-seen pics to make their pubs fresher and more intersting.

I can't explain the logic behind X17 having their own blog, but I understand why they wouldn't want to have there pictures seen everywhere without them having been paid for...

Bottom line is: what Perez Hilton is doing is illegal, and he should be sued. And, he states that he "would have gladly put a link to this website but you had to get all nasty..." well, obviously he never intended to use links in the first place, or he would have just done it. India, after birth, especially after a C-section (2 in Britney's case) the stomach does not "go down" for a while. The uterus shrinks quicker if you breast feed, but Britney doesn't breast feed. If you don't want bloggers using your pictures on their sites then why the hell do you send out numerous e-mails to all the bloggers letting them know when you have new pictures with "just don’t forget to link back to us if you use any of our stuff!" on the bottom of every one?

You should protect your interests. This is a business and if you let it go one time it will continue to dilute the value of it. It is too bad that others cannot come up with their own ideas and refrain from stealing from others. However, you may have public domain issues. I suggest you not make idle threats. You need to follow-thru with what you say. Otherwise, when you really decide to call the dogs in to attack, a judge may say you have let it go before.....etc. etc. etc. A simple injunction, first, may be appropriate and if that does not work, then you actually file suit. The bloggers will have to hire attorneys or ignore the suit and face default judgement. Then you can grab their assets. The attorney fees alone will make them stop stealing. Just a thought. :-)

I'd be more pissed if they were stealing bandwidth by direct linking then just using the photo since they didn’t alter the photo.

I’m confused, you use java script to “disable right clicking” on the main page but don’t on the second “jump” page. Kind of defeats the purpose if not done on all your pages.

Of course that only keeps the honest people honest since anyone can just do a screen capture anyways.

I do agree that it could potentially devalue the photo but why post it online at all if selling to a mag??? Usually the exclusive photos i.e. not SOLD OR DISPLAYED to anyone else have the greatest value and one your procure the money let the other losers scan and post all over the net and face copyright infringement charges.

If the real issue is preserving the value of photos before they’re sold to print media, I have to agree with a previous poster. I can’t see how you’d be able to prevent anyone from lifting your pix off the site, which leaves you with a couple of choices - delay posting them until after the sale is made, or hold back the premium shots and post only the lesser ones.

Educate us here. How does the process work? Let’s say you shoot the Britney pix on the weekend. Then what – do you wait til Monday to contact the photo editors, or is this a 24/7 thing? For photos like this, do the mags want exclusivity, or does everyone buy a picture or two? Are they willing to pay a premium if you agree not to publish them online?

2. I would never have found your site without him posting your pictures in the first place.

3. Disabling the right click function is such a waste of time. All people need to do is go to Tools > Internet options and set the security to restricted or high and scripts are disabled and the right click is available again. If they want it, they will get it!
