The Hangover 2 Will Be Released Despite Tattoo Lawsuit
Posted on Tue May 24, 2011 11:30 AM PDT
Warner Bros.
The Hangover 2's release will not be put on hold despite a legal fight over the tattoo seen on actor Ed Helms' face in the new movie.
Mike Tyson's tattoo artist was attempting to put the film's release on hold while a judge decided whether the film used the image of the ink without proper permission.
However, Judge Perry, who is hearing the case has decided to allow Warner Bros. to release the film as planned. Warner Bros. issued the following statement:
- "We are very gratified by the Court’s decision which will allow the highly anticipated film, The Hangover 2, to be released on schedule this week around the world. [The tattoo artist's] failed attempt to enjoin H2 in order to try and extract a massive settlement payment from Warner Bros. was highly inappropriate and unwarranted."
The tattoo artist, S. Victor Whitmill, claims Warner Bros. never asked permission to use the Maori-inspired facial tattoo.
